Hello yet again.
Thanks for posting an additional question.

I'm posting this as a clarification - please let me know if this is
the data you are interested in and I will post as an answer (with the
relevant information included, of course...and sources...) -

+ CCTV surveillance US and global factory sales for 2002 with
estimates
+ 2002 sales of digital surveillance products and services and
estimate for 2005

I was not able to locate a number for units or systems but only total
dollars. I think that "digital video security camera" and CCTV
surveillance systems are one and the same, but wanted to make sure
that you think so as well! :-)

thanks,
ragingacademic

Hello again Signatures,

I am posting this as a comment since this may not completely answer
your question but it may interest you.

“Last year’s tragic events of September 11th did not awaken us to the
importance of security for the first time, but they certainly
intensified our efforts toward achieving greater security where we
live, work, and play. Along with biometric technologies like face
recognition, CCTV surveillance has been receiving considerable
attention lately in terms of what this technology can do to help us
manage our security environments more effectively. In the U.S. alone,
some two million CCTV cameras are installed each year and the CCTV
segment constitutes a significant portion of the $4 billion U.S.
“security market.”, as it does in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.”

The Evolving Face, Use of Digital Video Surveillance
by Joe Freeman http://www.securitysales.com/t_ci_articleView.cfm?aid=1088&sid=17

“Between 2000 and 2005, according to market research firm Frost and
Sullivan, sales of digital video surveillance cameras will increase by
a factor of 10. More and more of these cameras are being purchased by
private associations, small businesses, and—most startling—consumers.
CCS International, a surveillance products company in New Rochelle,
NY, estimates that ordinary Americans are buying surveillance devices,
many of dubious legality, at a clip of $6 million a day. We have met
the enemy of our privacy, and it is us.”

In fact, Joe Freeman, CEO, J.P. Freeman Co., told the New York Times
in late September that the digital video surveillance market is
growing 15 percent a year, or about four times as fast as the security
industry as a whole.
