Well, this really depends at what level of programming you are currently at and also if you want to learn Visual C++ or C++. Here is what I recommend for you: Since the best book for myself might not be the best for you, take a look at this URL: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/3966/1/104-5189076-7170354?rank=%2Breviewrank&submit.x=12&submit.y=11 That has Introductions to C++ (ignore the books on C) in the order that customers rated the books. The books that have the most positive ratings are the ones listed at the beginning. Take the time to read through the descriptions of at least the first 15 and also read some of the customer reviews. If you do require want a specific recommendation, I would go for this one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0072225351/qid=1051851333/br=1-6/ref=br_lf_b_6//104-5189076-7170354?v=glance&s=books&n=3966 I believe that the pace of this book is great for a beginner, and I also believe that it is easier to learn about creating objects, inheritance etc. once some of the easier concepts have been mastered. Other people would say it is better to dive right into creating ojbects, but I do not think C++ is a good language for this approach. Java is a much better language for teaching object oriented programming. Please let me know if you require any clarification regarding this answer. I will do my best to further assist you as soon as possible. tisme-ga Search Strategy: used amazon.com |

There's a book named "Thinking in C++, 2nd edition", by bruce eckel. This book, can be found freely available online, in PDF format, at the authors' company website: http://mindview.net/Books/TICPP/ThinkingInCPP2e.html Or you can buy it, if you prefer a printed version through favorite book store, i.e amazon. Notice that the author's website contains also a book on java. It might help you out to grasp even better the concepts of Object Oriented Programming (OOP) if you haven't made it this far. Hope it helps |
