Around 1984-1987, I read a book in the sci-fi/fantasy genre that I am
trying to remember here in the U.S..
The characters were all demons, set in a relatively "normal"
environment/world (e.g. it wasn't our world.) However, their reality
consisted of a society of demons, and their moralities were inline
with what you would expect from demons - evil, instead of good was the
expected behavior. The subject was sometimes surprisingly unsettling,
but the author had a good sense of humor and a very appealing writing
style. I'm not sure, but I thought it was a part of a series.
Anyone have any ideas about this? |

This could be any one of dozens of books, from A to Z: Asprin to
Zelazny ;-)
Without more plot info, it's hard to narrow the field down enough to
be certain what book you're remembering. You might want to browse
through this list of SF/Fantasy books with plots involving demons, and
see if a title might ring a bell:

If you can recall any additional details, it would be very helpful.
Even a tiny clue can sometimes lead a Researcher to be able to
identify a book.

Actually, that's at least part of my problem - not enough details. I
am expecting several leads as a possible answer.
Given the amount of time that has past, I have very little else to go
on. If additional detail come to mind, I will certainly pass them
along.

I don't think this was one of Piers Anthony's books. This was darker
than his work, although I did enjoy his stuff - including the "On A
Pale Horse" book and the others in that series.

There was a series in and around that time and later, affectionately
called the "In Hell" series, and had such books as 'Heroes in Hell,'
'Crusaders in Hell,' 'War in Hell,' 'Kings in Hell' and the like. It
was a shared world anthology, generally edited by Janet Morris. If
this sounds like it may be it, respond in the affirmative and I'll
give you details, links and the like.

I am not familar with this anthology, and it doesn't ring a bell. Do
you have a summary of any of the story lines?
