My wife and I can recall a scene from the movie, but are unable to
remember which movie the scene is from.

The scene we remember takes place in a grocery store, and a man
(perhaps the main character?) is checking out. The clerk is a 20-25
year old girl chewing gum with her hair up. The man knows the girl
very well, and the general gist of the scene is that she should know
him as well but doesn't. The scene cuts to outside the grocery store
in the parking lot, at nighttime, and the girl tells the man in a New
York City-esque accent, "Hey Mister, you forgot your receipt." He
thanks her, and she says, "Don't I know you from somewhere?" He
replies, sadly, that he doesn't.

I'd think the movie is a recent movie (last 10-15 years). The plot of
the movie must involve some kind of memory loss, time travel, or
alternative universe since the guy and the girl are in love but she
doesn't remember that life or part of her life.

Which movie is this scene from, and which part of the movie is it?

Hello

Thank you for your question.

I am confident that the movie you are referring to is the "The
Thirteenth Floor." The grocery clerk was played by actress Gretchen
Mol, and the man was played by actor Craig Bierko.
The idea revolves around a computer that enables its user to
time-travel.

I am including the following short excerpts of where you may verify
that this is the correct information:

"The Thirteenth Floor... Gretchen Moll is supposed to re-create the
coolness and sophistication of a film noir screen queen, but she
doesn't quite carry it off. Of the characters she plays, I found her
bubble-gum-popping grocery clerk far more appealing than the
mysterious femme fatale."

"Computer visionary Armin Mueller-Stahl is the first to download
time-travel but he runs into foul play, which brings his over-wrought
assistant, Craig Bierko, to the rescue. Then, when more trouble
ensues, technie Vincent D'Onofrio goes back in time too. All three
encounter lovely femme fatale Gretchen Mol, who is trying to pass
herself off as Mueller-Stahl's daughter. Or is she a check-out girl at
a local grocery store?"

A very good friend of mine read the question and recognized the movie
immediately based on your description.

Here's another reference:

"The cast has a fun time playing dual, or sometimes triple roles with
this scenario. Vincent D'Onofrio plays a present day computer
programmer named Whitney, but also the tight-fisted bartender Ashton
in 1937. Gretchen Mol is unfairly wasted as a mysterious woman
charading as Fuller's daughter, but also as a part-time clerk at a
grocery store."

"The Thirteenth Floor" is definitely the one. I've seen it twice, and
I vividly remember Gretchen Mol as the gum-popping grocery checker who
ran into the parking lot with the receipt. Although she "knew" the guy
in an alternate reality (where he was the lover of her other self),
she didn't fully recognize him, but he knew her. A very moving scene
from a very thought-provoking movie.
