Hello saltar,
Thank you for your question.
It would be helpful to know what exactly you are doing when this error
occurs, when the error started and what changes you might have made to
hardware or software just before that time, and any other details
about the error message. However, this a good amount of information on
this error avaialable on the Internet.

WHAT DOES MSGSRV.EXE DO, ANYWAY?
"Have you ever had a problem with MSGSRV on your Windows computer?
Odds are that you have encountered one or more situations where MSGSRV
is not responding, according to Task Manager. Perhaps your modem or
a USB appliance has hung, or power management features wouldnt
respond right, or some other hardware problem has made itself known.
For any of these circumstances, MSGSRV often ends up taking the blame.
Taking the blame? Yes. MSGSRV is rarely the real problem. Dont shoot
the messenger; for, thats just what MSGSRV is: the Windows Message
Server. When it wont respond, this just means that something is wrong
somewhere else! But, what is MSGSRVs real job? Microsoft answered
that question this week for Win95, Win98, and Win ME users, in a new
Knowledge Base article, Function of the Windows 32-Bit Message Server.
Its a rather short article, so Ill quote its main points in full:
Msgsrv32.exe is a program that runs invisibly on the Windows desktop
and performs several background functions necessary for Windows
operation. These functions include:
-Mediate Plug and Play messages among various parts of the operating
system.
-Coordinate automatic responses to Setup programs. This includes
checking whether a Setup program has improperly overwritten Windows
files, and optionally restoring the Windows versions of those files.
-Display the initial logon dialog box if networking is enabled.
-Play the system startup and shutdown sounds.
-Load installable Windows drivers at startup and unload them at
shutdown.
-Run the shell program (usually Explorer.exe) and re-run the shell if
it fails to respond.
Note that last one! Its probably the function that is hanging most
often when your system freezes due to an error in some other
component of your computer for which MSGSRV gets the blame."

"This error is comming up on shutdown:
(MSGSRV32 error you will lose all info since last save, click close to
continue or Ignore to save your data)
Ignore does nothing, close will then bring up a GPF illegal operation
in module CM8330SB.DRV at 0003:00000B75 .If I close this GPF then
Windows will shut down just fine, It then restarts with no problems
and everything runs OK, Just the shutdown error.
This seems like a driver error of some sort but I can't figure it out,
there are no conflicts in Device Manager, I have installed the latest
drivers for everything I could find...
Answers:
... I believe you have got a PC-Chips motherboard with onboard
"soundpro" audio. If this is the case, your problem is with the audio
drivers. Download new versions from
http://www.pcchips.com/driver.html and that should fix your problem...
...The chip on the board is the culprit. You should receive any of the
following errors when you try and shut down or restart Windows 98.
MSGSRV32.EXE caused a general protection fault in module CM8330SB.DRV,
EXPLORER caused a general protection fault in module CM8330SB.DRV or
MSGSRV32.EXE: An error has occurred in your program. To keep working
anyway, click ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this
program, click Close. You will lose information you entered since your
last save. When you receive either of these error messages, your
computer stops responding or hangs.
These error messages occur because the MB uses a sound card based on
the C-Media CMI8330 sound chip, or a modem that also uses the C-Media
CMI8330 sound chip. This sound chip is used as the basis for several
sound cards, and is also used with some modems.
To resolve this, contact the manufacturer of your sound card or modem
to obtain an updated driver. You can also contact the manufacturer of
the chip and try the C-Media Windows 98 sound card driver version
4.10.00.0152 or later available on the following C-Media Web site:
