Recently I purchased a year of Juno dial-up ($10 per month), now I
need DSL to free up the phone line - can I get just the DSL of a
different company for a lower price than their regular DSL price? -
Some sort of a Dial-up - DSL combination?

You could buy a connection with lower speed probably for a discount
rate (depending on where you are), but your Juno dial up would still
be worthless. Try phoning Juno and ask for a refund, if you cant get
it, try selling the account to a third party if Juno will allow you to
do so.

How about this, tell us where in this vast world (to the city would be
fine) and what you are willing to pay for DSL.

Hello courious,

Yikes... based on what I have seen so far, DSL is not going to be very
cheap for you.

Use this website to get quotes from the DSL providers in your area:
http://www.dsl-service-dsl-providers.info/newyorkdsl.html

The best I could do was click on DSL, Personal, use phone number
718-953-79xx (phone number in that zip code) and I received some
detailed quotes to verify that this will work for you.

You can also try this website to check prices for DSL (this website
needs your street address so you will have to do this yourself also:
http://www.dslreports.com/prequal

====================================================================

I just remembered a service that might allow you to keep your dialup
and also use your phone! My parents have used this service in the past
and it worked wonderfully for them, but you will have to check if it
is available in your area.

This service can be found here: http://www.pagoo.com/

Some info:

When friends call while you're online Pagoo "catches" the call just
like an answering machine. Seconds later you can play back the voice
message on your computer!

No more missed calls. No more busy signals. Find out who's calling,
instantly!
Pagoo is like a second phone line for your computer.
Includes Caller ID, unlimited message length, and personal greetings.

You can try a free 30-day trial and it costs only $5.96 monthly after
the initial free month if you want to continue using it. Using this
method, you will be able to instantly know when someone has called
you, listen to their message while you are on the internet, and then
decide if you want to disconnect and call them back!

Here are some similar services, but I cannot vouch for these
personally:

http://www.internetcallmanager.com
http://www.callwave.com/

If you don't need high speed internet, and want an easy solution, this
just might work for you. Of course I am assuming that your main
concern is being unable to use your phone, so this second part might
not be relevant to you.

I hope this was the type of answer you were looking for. If you need
any clarifications, please let me know and I will do my best to get
back to you as soon as possible.

tisme-ga,

I have the lowest price calling plan of MCI in NYC, and the lowest
price ISP of Juno, and I want that every time someone phones that the
internet connection should disconnect automatticaly and the regular
phone should ring - what is the lowest price for that ('total' price:
phone company for that et cetera), (and it should be simple to get up
and running). (- something less expensive and 'simpler' then Juno's
solution: http://www.juno.com/techsupport/faq/connect/modem/mo-v92.html).

Or should I open a new question for this.

Thanks!

Hello courious,

I have collected these links for you in regards to your clarification
request:
http://www.internetcallerid.com/ (they sell a device which will give
you 20 seconds to decide if you want to answer a call (and therefore
be disconnected if you choose to do so.) This does require subscribing
to Call Waiting as well as purchasing the device).

I found another website: http://www.56k.com/reports/callwait.shtml
which has some other solutions. They recommend calling your local
phone company and asking them if they have any internet call waiting
solutions. It is also possible (according to this website) to
subscribe to call waiting so that there is a ring on the line (and you
might be able to configure your modem in such a way that this ring
causes a disconnect).

Note that your best bet might be to try the
www.internetcallmanager.com solution. One of their features is the
ability to be able to see who is phoning (on your computer screen) and
then decide if you want to 1) take the call, 2) send the call to voice
mail, 3) transfer the call to another person, 4) play the caller a
message, 5) ignore the call altogether (it will keep ringing).

If you need any more information, please do open a new question. I
have already gone way over what is normal for a $2.00 question. (see
pricing guidlines here: http://answers.google.com/answers/pricing.html
)

All the best courious,

tisme could not vouch personally for Internet Call Manager
  http://www.internetcallmanager.com
but I can. I used it several years ago, until I got DSL, and it worked great.
