Where on the Internet can I find free information for a recent year (2000, 2001 or 2002)on adult trade book sales (dollars and book numbers) by category for the U.S. and any major channels such as Barnes and Noble or Amazon? Categories I am especially interested in are self-help, language, and business books. (This link is a good reference, although not specific enough: http://publishersweekly.reviewsnews.com/index.asp?layout=article&articleid=CA286525&publication=publishersweekly) Thank you! | |

Hi Jeremy! Sorry to be so slow in getting back to you. I was out of town for two days. This is one of those cases where you were SO close to the answer that you're going to kick yourself when you see where I send you back to Publisher's Weekly. But, don't kick yourself too hard. The book sales statistics on that website are so incredibly hard to find, that I found them once only through sheer tenacity (I knew they had to be there somewhere!) when answering another book question, and since then have been unable to find them again except by going back to that question and clicking my own link. It turns out you can only get to them on the Publisher's Weekly site by going through the FAQs. There is no heading any place on the site that says "Book sales statistics." So .. here is the link to exactly the data you are looking for: PUBLISHERS WEEKLY FAQ'S TRADE BOOKS SALES STATISTICS http://publishersweekly.reviewsnews.com/index.asp?layout=siteInfo&doc_id=21658&crumb=FAQs#trade For further information on book sales stats along with many other links, here are some previous questions I answered on the topic --- Re: Book (Sales of books to women) http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=163529 Re: statistics/data about amount and kinds of nonfiction read by adults http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=58011 Re: Ghostwriting (percentage of books written by ghostwriters) http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=57007 And some related questions answered by other researchers ----- Library best-seller book circulation?
