Hello.

This is basically a three-step process.

First, you need to register the name theMIHS.org as a "domain name."

Second, you need to select a service provider to host this domain
name.

Third, you need to transfer your web pages to your new service
provider.

If you'd like to continue with Earthlink as your host, they offer both
domain name registration and several hosting packages. See their site
for more information:
https://www.earthlinkhosting.net/lander1.html?searchEngine=Over&keyword=hostingweb

Of course, you can also easily start a new web site with a new service
provider, possibly at a lower cost. A good outline of the process is
available on HostCompare.com
"Intro to Web Hosting"
http://www.hostcompare.com/intro.htm

CNET's interactive Web-host chooser is also a useful tool in selecting
a host service.
http://builder.cnet.com/webbuilding/pages/Servers/Publish/Business/ss01a.html

Your service provider can usually arrange domain name registration,
but it's possible to register a name independently if you wish. For
more information, see: Domain Name Resources, from
webhostmagazine.com:
http://www.webhostmagazine.com/do/index.asp

There are many bargain service providers that provide hosting for
small sites. An example of this is catalog.com which offers hosting
packages beginning at $25 per year.

Finally, once your new site is ready to go, you'll need to transfer
your web pages over. This web site offers a good tutorial on how to
do that:
"How to Transfer Your Web Site to Another Host Without Losing It"
http://www.isitebuild.com/hosttransfer

search strategy:
"transfer your web pages"
domain registration
"compare hosts",
earthlink, web, hosting

I hope this answers your question. If anything is unclear, please use
the "request clarification" feature. Thanks.

As an alternative, if you register at
http://www.arbordomains.com/index/11114 you can have their name server
point to your current (free) site. They also allow "clocking" so the
URL in the web browser shows the new registered name and not the old
site. Total cost is $15 a year.

Thanks, Peterthomas. Yes, that would be another alternative. The
term for the web browser trick is "cloaking" rather than "clocking."

One potential pitfall for that approach is apparently that if the user
right mouse-clicks and selects "Properties," he can see the full
address of the real location of your Web site or agent page. This may
introduce some confusion.

With low-budget hosting such as catalog.com, you get a real web
address, and it only costs a litte more than Arbor's
redirection/cloaking service.
