Question ID: 199478
I have been out of town for 2 days, after coming back I have received
about 500 emails. Outlook 2003 crashes after about 5 seconds doing
nothing or 20 seconds after pressing the send and receive button.
After going trough my email accounts, it stops after a few seconds)
The message ojn the buttom right sais" Receiving 6 of 24 (964kb of
6.94MB). Sometimes it goes all the way to 3MB of 6.94MB).
Is there any way I can solve this problem by starting Outlook 2003 in
safe mode? How would I do that? How can I archive or safe all emails
already received? Can I reconvert Outlook 2003 beta to Outlook 2000
without loosing data? If so how?

Hello Michael Hensel ~

It sounds as if you have a huge file 'stuck' on your server and for
some reason blocking your downloading of all the email there. It would
help if you can give us some more information:

What operating system are you using?

Have you successfully used Outlook 2003 until now?

Does your email server offer a way to access your email via the web?
If so, have you tried to access it and remove or delete the large file
that seems to be 'hanging' your Outlook 2003 beta?

Have you tried downloading it at all using other email software?

When you installed Outlook 2003 beta, did it prohibit your using
Outlook 2000 to access your email?

As far as keeping what has been downloaded, depending on your email
server, that original email is probably still there, as most email
servers don't erase the email on the server until after it is all
downloaded.

Some further information will help any Google Answers Researcher
better help you solve your problem.

Yours,
Serenata

Greetings michaelhensel,

I also am beta testing Outlook 2003 on my work PC so I might can help
out on this problem. First can you answer a couple of things?

A) You say that Outlook "crashes". What do you mean by this? Do you
mean that it simply stops responding and you have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to
end the task? Does it actually create and error with and error number?
What exactly happens where you believe that it is "crashed"?

B) Are you using Norton Antivirus in conjunction with Outlook? I've
seen this cause strange problems such as the one you're describing. If
you are using it, try disabling all of the EMAIL scanning functions
(incoming and outgoing) then rebooting and trying it again.

I have not tried uninstalling Outlook 2003 beta as of yet, so I don't
know if this would revert your mail storage folder back to whatever it
was previously. There may be some support documents that could shed
some more light on this if the need arises.

Thanks for your help, I have resolved the problem by repairing Outlook
