Question ID: 199786
You are the human relations manager for a large firm. The existing
labor negotiated contract is up for renewal in six months. What
actions will you take to prepare for this. You are expecting a tough
negotiation session as you hear rumblings that the union wants to put
a stop to outsourcing of work. In addition to an increase in medical
benefits and a 4 day (32 hour) work week with forty hours pay. There
are 14 outstanding grievance and five could have a serious impact on
the tempo of the negotiations.

You know that the top management of the company has a plan in place to
relocate this plant to a southern state within three years. No one at
this outside of upper management is aware of this. You are one of fie
people that know of this plan. You are now faced with an ethical
dilemma. Should you tell the union about the relocation plans or let
it remain a secret until the plan is made public in three years.

You are encouraged to stand firm on the negotiated package offered to
the union and let the union strike if they choose so. If they strike,
the company will announce plans to shut down the plant and start the
relocation.

You have three issues to deal with.
1. preparation for negotiations.
2. Deal with the grievance.
3. Should you tell the union of the relocation plans. Defend your
position and bear in mind there is a moral and ethical issue you need
to deal with.

a. Who will be hurt and how badly
b. Who will benefit and how much.
c. What, if anything do you owe to others.
d. What, if anything do others owe to you.

This is a essay question that gives several things that are going on
in this company. As the human relations manager for this firm what
would you do in these situations and take into mind the moral and
ethical issue that you are dealing with. I need an answer within 30
minuites and will increase the price to $15.00.

Go at it from the angle of human relations manager vs Union. Example
the human relations manager works for the firm so it would not be
ethical for her to share that information with the union and also I
would probably do a contract with the union up to the 3year time
period.
