Question ID: 199790
Hello, I was wondering if someone could look at my site
www.cypressindustries.com and see if there is anything they would
suggest for website optization purposes?

Should I be using Meta Keywords, or are they not being used much any
longer?
Should I include more text?
Should I change titles to any of my pages?
Any other recommendations?

Any suggestions to improve PR? I've submitted to as many websites
with PR>=4 as I could find that were related to us, but we're still a
3. I submitted to dmoz.org but something happened at the very end and
I'm not sure if they took it. I sent an email to the editor but they
haven't responded. Should I try again, it was about 2wks ago.

Thank you for your help!

Good Day cypresstom-ga,

Thank you for your question.

You have a great and clean home page! Very professional!

I had a look at the code, and found some things that can be tweaked. I
visited www.thisisouryear.com which analyzed your web site for some
possible ways to improve listing rank.

Here is a quick summary, based on my experience as a web master and
with guidance of www.thisisouryear.com:

Web site title:
The length of the title on the home page is 92 characters.
Some search engines have trouble with anything more than 80
characters.

All pages should follow the 80 characters or less title rule, no
matter how many layers below the home they are located.

Meta Tags:
I am not sure if the keywordscontent syntax will function well for
some of the meta crawlers. I would recommend making the following
change:

<meta name=keywordscontent="data fiber... "
to
<meta name="keywords" content="data fiber... "

Key words should be separated by commas. You can use phrases for more
unique "keywords":

<meta name="keywords" content="data fiber, fiber optic wire, rj45
cable..."

You are not limited to a single word between each comma.

Many search engines don't care very much about the key words any more,
but I feel they still have their place in a web site. Some might
argue...

Alternate Image Tags:
All images should have an alternate tag (ALT="..."). In the alt tag,
use the most appropriate description for the image. Here are some
excerpts from the Meta Tag Analyzer".

"It is important to regard alt tags as a potential asset to your
site... "

"Page decoration images should contain something that can replace the
decoration for a non-graphical browser - a "*", "-" or similar.
Navigation images/ icons should contain it's purpose - a 'Next' button
should contain the alt text "Next". Key component images of your site
should contain a short informative description, a picture of Florida
on a holiday booking site should contain an alt tag of "Bookings
available for Florida, USA" or something similar."

"Consider using alt tags with all images, search engines such as
Google take alt tags into account when calculating keyword density.
Also to help those that like (or have to) use non graphical browsing,
such as the visually impaired."

A good way to achieve better rankings is to find someone on the web
who does something similar as your company, and has a high rating.
Copy their web address and paste it into the Google search box, ie:
"www.cypressindustries.com", and see where they are listed.
Unfortunately I am not using Windows, and are unable to see the
rankings of the pages at
http://dmoz.org/Business/Industrial_Goods_and_Services/Cable_and_Wire/Assemblies/
but some of these pages are probably high ranking, and might provide a
good start on seeing where your competition is listed.

See where your high ranked competition is listed, and submit your web
site to the same resources if possible.

Getting listed on dmoz.org might take "several weeks":

"An ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether to
include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume
of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks
or more before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit a URL
to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the same
or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those
and all affiliated sites. Disguising your submission and submitting
the same URL more than once is not permitted. If a site you submitted
has not been listed after three weeks, you may submit it again or you
may send an e-mail to an editor of the category for which the site was
submitted."

In other words, to stay on the safe side, give it another week or so
before you resubmit your web site.

Please be sure to always read the instructions on URL additions to any
directory. While places like dmoz.org do not allow submitting to
multiple sections, other directories encourage doing so.

I hope this helps you in improving your ranking. Before rating my
answer, please ask for a clarification should anything be unclear, or
if you require more details about any specific topics.
