How many shopping centres are there in China.
Would it be possible to break this down into square foot size or GLA?
Thank you.

Hi Silversurfer77-ga,

I guess this question is impossible to answer, but just to get it
straight. How would you define a shopping centre? Would you be
interested in the US-style mall's or also a more European definition
where a large number of department stores and other facilities
constitute also a shopping centre?

Fons

Hi Fons

Not as impossible as you think. Malls in the US really sprung up in
huge numbers after WW2, China has only really started to develop
malls, American style, recently (1992 onwards). So I am looking for
enclosed and open malls with a GLA greather than 50,000 square feet
(5,000 square meters).

Hope you can help.

The availability of the information you are seeking would depend on
someone's having actually decided to count all the shopping centers
in China or measured their floor area. Perhaps these have been done,
but whoever holds this information in China has not made this
information public for free. My guess is that it will be found in
books or reports sold by certain statistical agencies. This is likely
the most easy to find:

Should I find anything else, I'll let you know.

Hi Silversurfer,
I had a look around, but even for a US$ 200 it would be an impossible
question. Too many places, too many companies, too much going on.

Fons
