Frank -- The New York Times articles cited were listed because they have an excellent online archive (all the way back to 1851 -- and it's indexed as well). Internet access to newspapers really only began about 1995; many newspapers have nothing before 1997. Indexes for "influential" newspapers, such as the Wall Street Journal, will often go back only to the 1980s online and you can use a library's Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature to go back further. A good example would be the Boston Globe: archives to 1979, available for a fee: Boston Globe http://www.boston.com/globe/search/ Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |
