Hello Muzzy,
it's a possibility that someone toggled the security options for the
internet zone, thereby disabling JavaScripting, or Java applets. To
switch it back (for both Internet Explorer run in AOL, and Internet
Explorer run outside of AOL):
- open Internet Explorer
- in the menu entry "Tools" (or "Extras" in older versions), choose
"Internet Options..."
- go to the second tab, "Security"
- the zone "Internet" should be selected (and if my assumption is
correct it should currently be "Custom Level")
- now click on "Default Level" to go back to the original settings
The settings will now show "Medium", which should be enough to display
Java applets, and pages using JavaScript.
To make sure you really enabled JavaScript:
- in the security options, go to "Scripting - Active Scripting"
- see if "enabled" is checked, and enable it if needed
Additional information:
Java applets are those little boxes inside a webpage, typically first
showing nothing but a gray color. (JavaScript is combined with the web
page in ways that are not that easily spotted.)
Also, while Java and JavaScript in general can be considered "safe
enough", make sure you have the latest Internet Explorer patches
installed -- you can check by going to the "Tools" (or "Extras") menu,
and choosing "Windows Update".
Hope that solved the problem! |
