Hello lionel1,
According to an article on life coaching in Accountancy Age at
http://www.accountancyage.com/News/1118681 ,
The major coaching body is the International Coach Federation
(www.coachfederation.com) which has extremely high standards for
accreditation. These standards include formal training, mentoring by
an advanced and well qualified coach and at least 750 hours of
coaching experience. These hours take a long time to achieve and
because coaching is relatively new in the UK there are few coaches who
are ICF accredited
. The main bodies for professional training in the
UK are Coach University (www.coachu.com) and the Coach Training
Institute (www.thecoaches.com).
I looked at these big three and also at several others.
1. ICF has a find a coach feature on its site, which starts at
http://www.coachfederation.com/coaches/search1.cfm
The search can be narrowed in various ways. Unfortunately, it is not
possible to search UK entries by region! Three separate general
searches on personal coaching, careeer coaching and small
business coaching, between them identified coaches based in Ilkley,
Chester, York, Manchester, Edinburgh (could be an option if you are
very far North in England), Northwich, Gateshead, Stockport,
Sunderland, unspecified Tyne and Wear, Country Durham, near
Manchester, Ormskirk, Harrogate, Oldham, Kendal, Huddersfield,
Alderley Edge. There is a note on the search page which says that most
of the coaching is done by telephone, so location is not really a
problem, however, that is presumably something you can negotiate with
an individual coach to obtain a balance that suits you.. Fees vary
enormously, with the starting range expressed as less than $150 per
month and going up to over $1000 per month. There is also great
variation in the flavour of the individual profiles, from hard-nosed
business to mystically spiritual. The site does advise you to make
contact with at least three coaches in order to be sure of getting
someone who suits your needs and tastes.
NB The default on the search facility is to return only 10 results,
but you can increase this to 100.
If you dont want to search for yourself, or cannot express the
criteria you require, you can mail ICF at crshelp@coachfederation.org
to obtain some referrals according to your specifications.
2. CoachU (http://www.coachu.com which leads to
http://www.coachinc.com/CoachU/default.asp?s=1 ) has a search facility
at http://www.findacoach.com/index.html Restricting the search to
personal coaches, then Europe, then UK, then England gave 123 coaches.
You can search further by specific towns or display the full list.
There are coaches in Newcastle upon Tyne (the first coach listed in
Newcastle charges $60-300 per month and gives the first three sessions
free), Leeds, Manchester, York, Carlisle, Chester, Preston,
Stockport.
3. Coach Training Institute http://www.thecoaches.com/ has a search
facility at http://www.cticoaches.com/
However, despite the mention in Accountancy Age, a search on United
Kingdom did not return any results.
Some others:
4. Kickstart has a head office in Manchester. They offer one-to-one
coaching face-to-face, by telephone, by e-mail and by a combination of
all three. Single sessions cost £97.97 by e-mail, £177.97 for 2 hours
by telephone or webcam, £227.97 for 2 hours face-to-face. Monthly
costs (3 sessions per month, minimum 3-month commitment) for ongoing
coaching are: £197.97 by e-mail, £277.97 by telephone or webcam,
£447.97 face-to-face or £347.97 by a mixture of face-to-face and
e-mail or telephone.

They also offer ready-made courses by e-mail. These target specific
areas and cost £39.97 for a 4-6 week course. A one-week course on
confidence building is available for free.

5. Charles Bentley Associates (Life Coach UK) have two coaches in
Lancashire (Tarleton and Bolton). No details of fees are provided, but
contact details are given for each of the coaches.

6. Results Coaching Systems has one coach in Leeds and two in
Edinburgh, which might be useful if you are in the very northernmost
parts of England. Two of these mention that the first session is
complimentary. Links leading to contact information for all three are
at:

Search strategy: life coaches UK, which gave me refs 4-6 as well as
the Accountancy Age article from which I identified the first 3 sites |
