Bessie Kate McCall was the daughter of Samuel McCall and Lillie
Moore[?]McCall.Lillie was listed as Head of house in Marshall
County,MS,in 1900.I believe Sam died between 1890 and 1900.Bessie was
born in Tate County,MS June 13th,1891.She married a F.C.Keating,who
died. Then she married Henry C.Pou,who also died. These marriages took
place in TN.She then married a boxer named Joseph[?]Thomas in
Chicago.I think she divorced him.She then moved to Calif.in the early
1930's,where she married Morris Miller.Bessie died in Calif.in 1971.
I wouls like proof of Bessie's birth in MS and also proof of her
parents names and thier marriage dates.I believe her mother,Lillie
Moore Mccall was born about 1860-65,probably in Memphis, and Sam was
probably somewhere about her age.I do not know where he was born.

I have found a lot of postings relating to this family. I have found
the full name (with two variant spellings of the middle name) and
approximate birth year (give or take a year) for Lillie, as well as
the names of her parents and the date of their marriage. I believe I
know Samuel's middle initial, though I've seen another possibility as
well. I can say that Lillie and Samuel were almost certainly married
between 1880 and 1887, but nothing more specific. I have seen two
years listed for Bessie's birth, one with the date you listed, but no
confirmation.

Perhaps, if no one else finds the specific information you are looking
for, you will be interested in this information. But for now, I
imagine that you would want the search to continue.

In the meantime, I should ask: Do you know any other details about
Samuel, Lillie, their parents, or any of their children? (I know that
Samuel and Lillie had at least four children.)

Thank you for answering,
According to Bessie's Soc.Application, her parents were Samul [her
spelling]or Samuel W.McCall and her mother was Lillie Jimmy Moore
McCall.Bessie was born in June of 1891.Her sister,Fannie B.McCall was
born in July of 1888.Her brother,Eugene, was born in Oct.1887.She had
another brother,born in 1895,but I don't know his name.The family
story is that Sam,Bessie's father ,was killed by a train, about
1890,but I don't know for sure.If so,it was probably in MS.I would
like to know the names of Lillie's parents,but haven't a clue,except
that Lillie or her mother may have been born in Memphis.I believe that
Lillie may have been in TN about 1918,but may have married later.I
have no idea of her married name.I don't know why they all wound up in
Calif.I was raised by my grandmother, who would not speak of any family
members.I have her death cert.but it gives me nothing except her
birthdate.Any person who might have known anything about my family
died many years ago.I am the only living member of this family,so I am
trying very hard to find out"who I am!"

Do you have a date of death and place of death for Bessie?
Is Bessie related to Samuel/Samul? If so, what is the relationship?
Do you have a birth date for Samueo/Samul?

SINCERELY,

DEAR POPPY66:

If you live in the USA, a good place to start your research would be
to order a copy of Bessie's death certificate from the State of
California for about $15 (through the website www.vitalchek.com, then
click on the link to California to connect to the official state vital
statistics website for ordering), which would give her last known
address and also the name of the family member who reported the death.
Someone in the family might have access to a copy of Bessie's birth
record in her family documents.

Another alternative is to visit the website www.rootsweb.com, click on
the MESSAGE BOARDS link in black/gray letters, then in the "FIND A
MESSAGE BOARD" box, enter the term TATE COUNTY and the next page of
results/links will show in blue lettering the phrase
"BOARDS--LOCALITIES--US--MISSISSIPPI--TATE COUNTY" and you can click
on that blue lettering to connect to the TATE COUNTY message board to
post a message about your search for the birth record, and a local
genealogist there can suggest other sources (vital statistics office
probably did not keep birth records for that far back) to get
verification of the birth (perhaps school records or census records or
church/baptismal records or probate records, etc.).

SINCERELY,
4keith
