Can anyone tell me the city and street address (or cross streets) for Hibernia Bank branch #21. It was located either in San Francisco California or in the East Bay, i.e. Oakland, Berkeley, etc. This branch was functioning in the late 60's and probably continued throughout the 70's and possibly into the 80's when it was part of a merger. The bank was merged into Security Pacific National Bank which was later bought by Bank of America. This Hibernia Bank has no relationship to the Hibernia Bank in Louisiana. | |

If you're still in the Berkeley area, you might consider dropping by the Bancroft Library where the Hibernia Bank's 1859-1971 records are held. In that collection of records, there would probably be some indication of the location of branch #21. http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/tf1n39n558 |

This law firm represented the Hibernia Bank for about 130 years. Perhaps someone thee could provide the address you require: http://www.tobinlaw.com/html/tt_contact.htm http://www.tobinlaw.com/html/tt.history.htm heres some pictures of one of the old Hibernia branches: http://www.norcalmovies.com/Metro/ irony: December 17, 1998 -- Hearst Tower is the new name for the office complex planned for NationsBank (now Bank of America) on North Tryon Street. Hibernia is the bank that was robbed in the Hearst thing It looks like Security Pacific was sold to Commercial Credit Company/Travellers Group in 1997: http://www.bankofamerica.com/newsroom/press/formerBA/press.cfm?PressID=press.19970731.02.htm Travellers was a subsidiary of Citigroup but is independent now. Their press release page is down. http://wcm.travelers.com/tap/news/ OK, heres the trail from FDIC: (unfortuneatly they dont maintain location lists for inactive banks) Hibernia was established January 1 1859 First insured deposits January 1, 1934 August 21, 1988 Merged without Assistance into Security Pacific National Bank (est January 1 1871) April 22, 1992 Merged without Assistance into Bank of America, National Association (est October 17, 1904) I think somewhere, the FDIC must have records of the Hibernia branches. You may want to contact them directly. The department of financial institutions may know as well. http://www.dfi.ca.gov/ Other then these tips, youre going to need to get someone in California to look at the local libraries, either the collection mentioned in the other comment, or in local libraries where you think there was a branch. Usually libraries have old phone books that you can browse. It might not specify the branch number, but it will give you addresses. 5-14-2003 Many times the libraries do keep back issues of the city directories on file for genealogical and other public research, so do a Google search to find the San Francisco Public Library and contact them to see if they can help. Also, I happen to know of a California probate research firm, (www.brandenburger-davis.com) and they keep older city directories on file--send them an e-mail at info@brandenburger-davis.com to inquire to see if they could assist. I assume you want this information to get documentation to support a claim for unclaimed monies held by the State of California? SINCERELY, 4keith |

thanks keith! actually you're correct in that it is related to unclaimed properties, but I have enough evidence to prove the claim. I simply do not remember opening the account-its been nearly 30 years. It will take them awhile to process the claim. I thought the address of the branch would jog my memory. |
