Hi,

I'm trying to get a description for each of the approximately 1000
freeware and shareware programs I downloaded, so I can make a Web page
which I will use in an autoloading CD with all the freeware on it.
The CD is for distribution to family and coworkers. I want to get the
descriptions off Web pages. With a directory lister app and Excel
functions I developed a list of the programs with the word "download"
appended to each entry. I uploaded the file to my web site. It is
here: http://www.s2services.com/downloaded_list.htm.

How do I use Google API's or some other means to get a Google, "I'm
feeling lucky" URL for each entry? I would be limited to freeware or
open source development platforms. I have XP and SUSE Linux 8.0
loaded on my machine.

Thanks much. To risk flattering you all, you helped me before, and
you are a great resource, sorry I can't presently pay more.

Have you tried the ASP PAD Repository?

A large percentage of shareware and freeware authors use the PAD
(Portable Application Description) format in order to provide text
descriptions, urls and other information to download sites in a
generic XML format. The ASP (Association of Shareware Professionals)
maintains a large, freely accessible database of PAD data for
thousands of programs; you may be able to download the
descriptions--in an easy parsable format--for most of your programs
there.
