I need internet access for 25 PCs but only 10 IP addresses. I have a Cisco800 router, and a Teldat modem attache to a 64k frame relay connection. The PCs are all running WinXP Pro in the workstations. What´s the best available configuration? I have installed two network cards in one PC and I´m trying to enable ICF/ICS in ControlPanel/Network/Advanced but the service related failed to initialize. I tried to initialize the service using the MMC, but it shows "Error 109" and then "Error 230", both related with the "canalization". Please suggest me an appropiate configuration or the way to enable ICF/ICS. Thank you. | |

I don't know anything about the Cisco800 router, but it should do what you want. I defineatly wouldn't run ICS for 25 computers. Your internet should connect to a switch. The router is connected to the switch and will be assigned one of your 10 IPs. you then connect the PCs to hubs/switches that are connected to the router. (I put a switch above the router so that you can also conenct several PCs directly to the interent without the router. This is useful if you have a PC that needs to have access externally such as with PC Anywhere. You can have a PC with 2 NICs, one connected to the router for internet access and one connected to the switch just for external access._ |

Do you want/have to route all traffic through that one PC? why? The IP thing has me confused too ... you can use NAT and get all the IPs you want.. or you're gonna have to get into subnetting those 10 IPs and create many small networks. You can get this whole thing going with a hub. |

If you don't need public IP adresses for the 25 workstations, then set up a network of private IP addresses behind the router. Enable NAT on the router, and connect the router to your private network using a switch instead of a hub. ICS is best used for 5 or less workstations. |

it seems to me that you just need to enable Network address translation (NAT) on your router. I would assume that it has this function available, but maybe not. |
