Hello movilla,

First, this error can happen if you are attempting to upgrade a
version of Office 2000 with an older update. For example, if you have
the retail version of Office 2000 SR1 and you have attempted to update
Office 2000 with the SR1 download or update CD.

The Config.Msi folder is a directory used for failed installation
files for your Microsoft Office 2000 installation.

I would open Windows Explorer and click on Tools and Folder Options.
Under View, click on Show hidden files and folder and uncheck Hide
Protected Operating System Files. Next, I would rename the Config.Msi
folder to config.old and rerun Office 2000 setup. You can also try
removing Office 2000 from the Add/Remove Programs section of the
Control Panel and reinstalling.

If the above does not work, I need to know the following:
-The exact version of Office 2000 you are installing. This should be
labelled on the first installation CD.
-The operating system you are running.
-Do other application such as Microsoft Word 2000 run fine? If you
click on Help and About Microsoft Word, what version number shows up?

I hope the above will resolve this problem for you and if not, please
reply with the information requested, and I will research this further
for you.

All the best,

tisme-ga

Above did not work.
As requested info
Office 2000 Professional with FrontPage
Windows 98
All other applications running - Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc are all
functioning well.
I hope this assists in your message.
Is there a way in sending an attachment to you to highlight
and illustrate the problem better than I can explain it.
Thank you.

Hello movilla,

After extensive research, I am still unsure what is happening.

I have a support contract with Microsoft and could file an inquiry if
you want, it would probably extend this to another 24-48 hours. I
could also retract my answer so that another researcher can have a go
at a solution.

The choice is completely up to you. Please let me know.

Dear Tisme-ga
Since last mailing and me going through the programme have
identified problems with hyper-links. Will not work when
clicked on highlight button. Will work when I hold down ctrl key
and click on mouse.
Just a thought which may give you some guidance in resolution of problem.
Thanks again

Hello movilla,

I have communicated with Microsoft extensively and they are
recommending a complete format of your hardrive and reinstalling
Office.

They believe that there is either a virus on your computer, a
corrupted file or various corrupted registry entries. It could also be
a combination of any of these three problems.

They would take a deeper look, but that would require me having direct
access to your computer, and uploading some of your files for them to
look at, something that would be impossible at this point.

I understand this is not the answer you were looking for, but
unfortunately it is what I have come up with. If you want, I can
request that my answer be removed so that you will not be charged for
this question. If reformatting is a valid answer for you, then you do
not need to reply to this request for clarification.

All the best,

tisme-ga
