Question ID: 20228
We are a engineering and manufacturing company in the area of
elctronics and electro optics. A problem was identified in
processsing approvals and follow up on requisitions for tools in
variou sdepartments.

Looking for a software which can be installed on our network and which
allows anyone to request a sepcific toll he/she needs (could be a
plier, a screwdriver, and osciloscope, a software application, a
desktop printer, or anything that one needs to do his/her job).

The application should compare the request to the data base of already
available tools in order to check if such alerady exist and might be
available in the company.

It should automatically route itself to the approving authorities
(boss, finance etc.) for signatures.

It should provide the requesting party with a status of the
requisitit.

It should indicate what charges the toll is to be associated with
(capital equipment, project, dept etc.)

All the way up to (but without, a Purchase Order.

There are some 350 people in our organization. One location.

looking for off the shelf solutions !!

Hi there!

This isn’t entirely my field and I don’t want to send you down the
wrong road, but I’ll take a stab at one suggestion since no one else
has responded yet. I think what you are looking for is “Asset
Management” software.

A really quick Google search netted me a zillion companies that seem
to be providing the type of product you describe - both for product
and for in-house requisitioning.

Or, maybe you already know that and are actually looking for someone
to review the specific software? There are people here much more
qualified than I am when it comes to software solutions and review, so
I’ll leave that to them.

Meanwhile, here are the results of my Google search you may want to
look over --

By the way, it appears from what I read, that many of these systems
involve barcoding your items to facilitate tracking.

Hope this helps … and if not … well, it’s a gift horse .... :-)

There are infinite solutions to this question. For $5 worth, I'd say
to install MS Access 2000 on your network, open an Asset Management
Template, enter in your tools, and create shortcuts on the desktops of
all concerned managers.

Rather than invest in building your own IT systems, you might care to
consider signing up for a Web-based service, like
http://www.eplus.com/. From the Web site: "Procure+ supports all
aspects of the eProcurement lifecycle, from Internet-based
requisitioning, order approval workflow, bidding and reverse
auctioning, purchasing, inventory management, invoice matching and
consolidation, and reporting, to the management of accounts payable
activities -- complete "Req-to-Check" processing."

za-ga:

You’re on to a great software initiative that will quickly pay for
it’s self and increase both your company’s productivity and
profitability. I would be glad to recommended the top solutions,
however it requires knowing what other software the ‘tool requisition
module’ will interface with. For example what’s the extensibility of
your existing systems, could your accounting, purchasing or database
applications be configured to handle the new requirements? If not,
then integration is the next question; the new ‘module’ must tightly
integrate with the other systems to achieve your enterprise wide
objective. It is essential to know what your existing systems are to
make a meaningful recommendation.

If you wish, please detail the systems and extend the time limit on
the question.

Thanks,
Waldo
