Hello lentionne-ga, I have found an old hotel near Nijmegen, in the village of Beek, called Hotel 't Spijker. Hotel 't Spijker http://www.hotelspijker.nl/spijker_uk.html According to its web site, the hotel was occupied during World War II but was "again ready for business at the end of 1947 beginning of 1948." (Click on "History" to view this page.) You can view its location by clicking on "Contact", then "Route Map", and scrolling through the three maps. You can also look at this page: "Location / Plan" [link from page called "Welkom by Hotel 't Spijker" at http://www.hotel-traveling.com/hotel/uk/eu/nl/holland/hotels/spijker/Hotel%20%26%2339%3Bt%20Spijker/ ] www.hotel-traveling.com / Bookings http://www.bookings.nl/cgi-bin/showsubpage.pl?hotel=10842&subpage=10842_map.html%20&lang=uk&id=300384&via=search&via=homepage You might want to contact the hotel to obtain further details of what it was like when it reopened in 1948 and how an traveler would have gone from the Nijmegen train station to the hotel. You can click on "Contact" on the hotel web site to find that page. I hope that this information is helpful. - justaskscott-ga Search terms used on Google: nijmegen hotel centrum "hotel 't spijker" beek [I tried several other searches as well, but the searches I have listed resulted in the pages I have cited.] | |

What a perfectly splendid answer, JustAskScott! You'd have gotten five stars from me, had I been the questioner! |

Thanks, magnesium! As far as I'm concerned, when four stars are accompanied, as here, by a statement like "Great job!", then I don't really miss the extra star. And even without any additional praise, four stars still indicates a satisfied customer. |
