I want to know what legal/financial recourse I have with a previous
owner
and a contractor who did some faulty work on the CA condo I purchased.
 A spa tub with no lip to prevent leaks and tile without waterproofing
was installed.  The first day I live here I discovered it because of a
leak that did not appear upon home inspection.  The previous owner is
contacting the contractor (I don't know if he was licensed/bonded yet)
and I am going to check with the city for permits for this work, which
they needed.

The liability of a former owner (and moreso, a contractor for a former
owner) is usually a tricky area of legal practice. Factors which may
affect your ability to recover include such things as whether there
was an "as is" clause in your purchase agreement, and whether you had
the condo inspected before you purchased it. If you are still seeking
an answer to this question, perhaps you could provide additional
details about the circumstances, and purchase agreement, so as to help
a researcher  hone in on the relevant issues.

There was a home inspection which did not detect the problem.  Only
when there is someone in the shower does the water run down the wall
and then into the crack between the tile and the tub down into the
kitchen.  It runs into the kitchen because the tub has no lip to
prevent it.  It is a spa tub and not permitted.  One opinion I had
said the tub may need to be replaced b/c it has no lip.  I don't know.
 My realtor says there was no "as is" clause in our agreeement.
