I am looking for a software package that will ideally do two things:
1)Analyse an MP3 formatted song and tell me how many beats per minute
the dominant beat of the song runs at
2) Allows me to make small adjustments to the speed at which the song
will play in future - either speeding it up or slowing it down so I
can achieve the required number of beats per minute.
Does such software exist? Where would I find it?

Hello Jack,
Many thanks for such a quick reply. These look like they may be the
answer! I have sent an e-mail to the support addresses of the software
companies to check that they will do what I need. Can you bear with me
a couple of days til I hear back from them?
Regards
David

Hello jackburton-ga,
sorry for the delayed response - i have now checked them out and after
a bit of delay have found that the first programme does do the beat
per minute calculation which was the first part of the question
(thanks!)but cannot speed up an MP3 formatted song which was the
second part. I've since myself tracked down Cool Edit Pro which will
speed up or slow down tracks so I guess I should now close the
question unless you can find for me a cheaper alternative than Cool
Edit Pro (which costs 265 dollars ouch). I'm not sure how the nuances
of google answers payment system works.. if you answer half a question
would it be reasonable for me to pay for just half an answer?!

Hi,
If you go to http://www.aldostools.com/wavedit.html and download that
zip, you'll find a file called lame.exe, which is an mp3 encoder.
If you then go to http://www.fleximusic.com/waveditor/overview.htm
you can download fleximusic, which requires that lame.exe to do what
you want. I've just tried fleximusic, it's free to try and $10 to
register, you just load your mp3, give it the lame.exe when it asks
you for it, then you can choose effects->stretch/shrink from the menu
and speedup/slowdown your song.
I hope this fulfils your needs, if so, please let jackburton answer
for the full question.
Thanks.

101606,
Since your Question has not yet been officially Answered, you can
reduce the fee by half to $10.00 (click the "Edit Parameters" button)
and let Researcher endo-ga Answer it, then post another Question for
$10.00 addressed to jackburton-ga (or vice-versa, whatever works for
you).
Thanks for taking such good care of your Researchers!

Hi,
Thanks for that, but unfortunately someone else locked your second
question before I could, what is normally done, is that the question
asker, specifies in the question or question subject that a specific
question is for a specific researcher (a lot of repetitions there :)).
Sorry for all the trouble.
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes that's exactly it, except I want to see if I can get jack to
answer the second one as well, we'll sort it out between us.
Sorry for all the trouble, hope you're happy with the service and hope
you'll use google answers again.
Thanks.
