Hi sunflower33,

If I understand you correctly, you are hoping that a researcher can
point you too a website (or other source) that would reveal your
friend's birthday just by typing in his name. Unfortunately, that
really isn't possible. There is no ONE source that maintains
everyone's birthday.

There is one site that claims to have the largest Birthday database on
line. They collect birthdays from published government databases,
including driver's license and voter registration lists. But this is
far from complete. First of all, it is US only. (I don't know where
you are) Second of all, not all government organizations make their
databases available. So, in reality, even though they brag over 135
million records, the list is far from comprehensive.

If you are in the US, I invite you to search for your friend's name
(or even your own) here --

ANY BIRTHDAY
http://anybirthday.com/search.htm

However, since this person is your friend, I bet there are plenty of
ways to get him to reveal his birthday. For your $10, I'm going to
give you 10 suggestions for doing that.

1 – Ask him. (What's the downside?) Tell him you're updating your
files or something.

2 – Get someone else to ask him. One of your friends, or his, or some
cute girl who sits next to him in class.

3 – Ask people who know him well -- his best friend, his sister,
parents, roommates, etc. One of them must know.

4 – Start a conversation at a party about "The Birthday Problem" (
the probability of 2 people in a group sharing the same birthday.)
Use this question as a starter for the conversation –

"What's the smallest group of people you can have and ensure at least
a 50% chance that two people in the group will share the same
birthday?" (Answer 23)

OR

What is the fewest people you can have in a room and have certainty
that at least two will share a birthday? ( Answer 367)

Then see if the stats hold true by asking everyone their birthdays.

5 - Start a conversation about sharing birthdays with famous people.
If he names a famous person that he shares a birthday with, then go
online and see when that person was born.

The best way to find a famous person's birthday is to do a search for
their name (in quotes) followed by the word "biography" For example –

Google search "Britney Spears" biography
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%22Britney+spears%22++biography

Or use a site like this

FAMOUS BIRTHDAYS
http://www.famousbirthdays.com/

6 – If he doesn't know anyone famous who shares his birthday, offer to
find one for him. Then of course, he'll have to tell you his birthday.
Use the above site to find a match for him.

7 – Think of some excuse to see his driver's license - I like the one
proposed by redhoss -- Talk about bad driver's license photos. Or
start talking about how you heard that drivers licenses look different
now and you'd like to see if he has the old style or the new one.

8 – Make a bet with him that you can guess his birthday in just 5 "yes
or no" questions. Then do this –

Q – What's your sign? (This narrows it down to 30 days spanning 2
months) Let's say he says Aries –

Go to Zodiac dates:
http://www.starfriends.com/NSTables.htm

Q – Is your birthday in March? Yes (now you are down to 10 days)

Q – Is it between Mar 21 and Mar 25? No
Q – Is it the 26th, 27th or 28th? No
Q – is it an odd number? yes
A – Aha! It's the 29th!!

If he says "No it's not!" then you know it's the 31st :-)

9 – Do the above, but not as a game. Just over time ask him the same
set of questions (you know .. innocent-like.) Once you know his sign
and his month, then it's just a matter of narrowing down the number.
Use the "odd or even" question. Also ask what day of the week his
birthday fell on this year. Be casual and, so it doesn't look obvious,
have someone else ask a couple of the questions. I bet it won't take
you long to get the real date.

10 - Get him to play any of these online birthday games with you –

On what day of the week were you born?

Ancestor Birthday Calculator

So, that's what I've come up with. I can't imagine, if he's really
your friend, that he's going to keep his birthday secret from you
forever. (Unless he's trying to avoid an embarrassing surprise party,
in which case I can't blame him!)

Good luck in getting what you are looking for. Sorry I couldn't
provide you with direct access to his birthday, but as I mentioned,
that just isn't possible – at least not legally.

Thanks for your question –

Maybe you could start a discussion about bad driver's license pictures
and get him to produce his for everyone to see. His DL should have his
DOB.
