I am searching for the death date and place of my ancestor, William
Hance Hamilton. He was on the 1880 census at age 85 in Marion County,
Indiana, living with his daughter and son-in-law George and Elizabeth
McClelland. William was born in about 1795 in North Carolina and
lived most of his adult life in Jefferson County, Indiana.

Dear orazio,

Has your ancestor possibly reached the extraordinary age of 108 years?
Or is this impossible in the context of family history?

Regards,
Scriptor

I would consider it unlikely, but I can't say that it is impossible.
I haven't for instance, checked to see if William H. Hamilton was
listed in Geo. McClelland & Elizabeth's household in the 1900 census.

There is no answer at this time.

I have found the details for a William H. Hamilton living in Indiana
who was born in circa 1795, North Carolina. Married to Sarah also
from NC, with children William D., Mary, Samuel and Joseph. But no
mention of an Elizabeth. But it could still a match.

Do you know any of the names of William's children other than
Elizabeth?

The death that scriptor-ga found may be for William D., the son of
William H.

Hi Popsracer,

William H. Hamilton's children were William D., Mary, Samuel and
Joseph from what I have seen on the 1850 census. I have heard there
was an older daughter Elizabeth who had left home by 1850. William D.
died in 1903.

Popsracer,

Just didn't like the way I worded my comment "I have heard there was
an older daughter Elizabeth who had left home by 1850." There really
was an Elizabeth, of course, as William H. Hamilton was living with
her in 1880! I have seen other reference to her, as well. She did
marry in 1850 and would have been on the census in her husband's home.
I believe William H. also had an older son James b. abt. 1822 and
perhaps other children.

Orazio
