I recently transfered some files from machine #1 to machine #2. Now I
get the following message when I open and close Word and Publisher on
machine #2:"The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to
the online
help or documentation of the host application to determine how to
enable macros." I am using a Windows XP and Office XP Professional
(pre-installed). What is a host application and how do I find out
what mine is?

Hi jolly1947-ga,

In Windows jargon, an "application" is just a program like Word or
Publisher. I believe it's called a "host application" in this context
because it is "hosting" the Visual Basic for Applications macros, that
is, providing the environment in which they run. So this is just an
obscure way for these programs to refer to themselves, and the
documentation for Word and Publisher (or perhaps for Office XP in
general) is the relevant source to consult.

For details on tweaking the security settings to get rid of this
message, see:

If you need any further information, please ask for a clarification,
and I'll help you if I can.

Search strategy:

microsoft office xp macros disabled host application

This search in Google led me to the Microsoft Office XP Top Knowledge
Base Articles page:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/office/officexp/support/OXP-TPKB.asp

On that page, I found a link to the page I cited above.

The answer solved my problem and exposed another. If I can't solve it
myself, I'll be back. Thanks
