I am attempting to locate a consise list of the publicly traded
companies which were spun off from a parent publicly traded company in
2002. It is my understanding - from doing some research on my own -
that 41 such companies were spun off in 2002.

For example purposes, a company which has announced such a spinoff
this year is US Bancorp. US Bancorp has annouced its intention to
spinoff its brokerage unit, Piper Jaffray, some time this year.

I want to point out that I need a consise list sent to me, or a link
to where I can find such a consise list on the Internet. I have done
quite a bit of research which turns up a company here, or a company
there, but not one consise list. Also, the list needs to reflect the
companies where a spinoff took place in 2002. I don't need any
companies listed that just expressed the interest to perform a spinoff
in 2002, or 2003.

There are at least two firms which specialize in tracking this type of
information.  Both price their database information fairly steeply.

However, there is a report available from Q3 online from one of them. 
It lists more than 100 transactions that have been announced.  It
includes U.S. and foreign concerns; it also includes
company-to-company transactions, such as Heinz' sale of StarKist Tuna
and 9-Lives brands to Del Monte.  One final note: announcement dates
don't mean that the deal was ever finalized.

If this meets your needs, I'd be glad to post it.  It appears to be
the best-available information and would give you an idea who the
experts are in tracking this financial area.
