Hi mars74~
As a person with sensitive skin myself, I can say that while waxing
can be painful, if you follow a few "rules," you don't have to risk
creating itchy, inflamed skin.
First, ALWAYS check the waxing product on a small patch of skin, even
if you've used the product before. (Your skin can develop allergies
over time.) If you hire someone to do your waxing, be sure to tell
them your skin is very sensitive, and ask them to do a test patch.
In addition, do remember that your hair must be at least 3/8 of an
inch long before you can wax effectively.
If you are a woman, be sure that you don't wax a week before your
period, since you'll tend to be more sensitive at that time.
Be aware that some medications (like Accutane) can make your skin more
sensitive; talk to your doctor or pharmacist to see if this might be
an issue for you.
Don't wax if you've been tanning or have a sunburn.
Don't apply moisturizer the day of waxing.
Don't drink a lot of caffeine before waxing.
Taking some Ibuprofen or aspirin might help relieve waxing pain, if
taken about an hour beforehand. A little ice applied just after waxing
can also help.
Remember to rip quickly, to reduce pain, and rip in the opposite
direction of hair growth.
Don't expose the waxes are to sun for at least 24 hours after waxing.
Do not use moisturizers that contain Retin A, glycolic acid or alpha
hydroxy acids after waxing. A little baby or mineral oil is the best
moisturizer after waxing. A little Aloe Vera gel may take away a
burning sensation after waxing.
