Hello pwhitcombp!

I'm very interested in your question, and would like to help.
I've started researching, but I would like to warn you there's
probably no list of "best" veterinary opthalmologists. A quick
search didn't turn up one, for two reasons: patients don't
have anything to compare their docs to, and docs don't like
to rat on each other. However, there are lists of "Board Certified
Veterinary Opthalmologists." I'd be happy to get these for you,
for the Detroit area and perhaps other major centers in Michigan.
Why are you excluding Michigan State University? Have you already
received bad news there? Because Schools of Veterinary Medicine generally
will have the most advanced treatments available. I can get you the
names of the other Veterinary Medicine schools near Michigan.
Would you be satisfied with the above, plus an exploration of
the forms of treatment available? cath-ga (p.s. My parents' Siberian
Husky lost an eye to glaucoma, but the other eye was saved and
she lived a long, happy life.)

I would think that the very best of the best in this field of medicine
would be affiliated with a nationally recognized and regarded
professional organization. I can supply you with a list of physicians
that are affiliated with such a group along with their clinics' names,
websites, etc. It appears that only a few are located in Michigan but
if travel is not an issue there are about 30 or 40 others around the
US on the list as well.

If this would suffice as an answer please let me know and I can post
it for you along with whatever other information I can gather from
this national organization.

regards;

as the previous commentor suggested, getting the list of doctors
should be easy.

Once you have those searching the internet for them is easy, but still
may or may not prove anything.

All the vets should be willing to discuss the number of surgeries and
success they have obtained though whether over the phone, via mail or
in person...those that won't are hiding things.

Accidents always happen, however, a high incidence rate is indicative
of other problems.
