Sonny H. Hopson was a legendary disc jockey at WDAS. He might have
been born around 1935. WDAS was a black music radio station. I need
his date of birth. |

Hi Bluestreak,
I don't know his exact birth date, but the year is 1937, according to
an interview he gave in 2000 to the Philadelphia CityPaper. The full
text is available on
according to http://www.citypaper.net/articles/082400/ae.20q.shtml
Even more interesting might be that he's been running an internet-only
radio-station for the past few years:
http://www.whthmusic.com/
His biography is on
http://www.whthmusic.com/New%20Sonny%20Hopson.htm
It doesn't include his date of birth, but there is an email address
for him, if you want to get in touch with him directly.
Good luck,

Hello again, gwagner old friend,
I just emailed his website, asking for his birthdate. I hope
he answers so I can credit you, as of old. Thanks so much for taking
a shot at one of my questions! It's good to work with you again! We
must do this again more often!bluestreak

Just for completeness sake, here's what I said in response to your
other question...
Thanks for your notes! Yes, it's nice to work together again. Sorry I
didn't email him myself, but since the exact DOB isn't publicly
available, I wouldn't be able to post it here anyways, even if he gave
it to me. And it's kind of iffy whether he counts as a "celebrity",
for whom it would be okay to post it.
I look forward to hearing from you. Simply post a question
clarification once you find out more and I'll come back here to check.
(same with the other question..)

gwagner,
Yeah, I know what you mean. The overwhelming percent of my
questions deal with people who barely qualify for celebrity status.
That is one reason I am trying to get them a little attention. And
then I run amuck of that issue of infringing on the privacy of
"legends who you never heard of", but never made it that big talents.
A stumbling block I know. Thanks for raising the issue though.

Bluestreak,
Seems to be indeed a tricky situation, especially since their position
is understandable as well. In this day and age of identify theft, all
you often need is a person's birthdate. That's why the
celebrity-distinction is so crucial. I imagine it'd be pretty tough to
walk into a store having memorized Tom Cruise's birthdate and mother's
maiden name and asking for a store credit card. But then again, it
might work doing so with "lesser celebrities," who are famous enough
to have their birthdate floating around on the web, but not quite
famous enough that a store clerk would recognize the name.

gwagner,
I'm glad you can appreciate what I'm up against. Most of
these names I've been seeking birthdates for, as you have found out,
when you look into them, they are quite well-known in their respective
fields, due to their excellence. However, it takes something special
to transcend your field and become known to people in general, a
Celebrity, if you will. Well, that is precisely what I'm trying to
help them do. Bring to the public at large, a large sampling of
tremendous artists who are SO excellent, but were stimied from
"breaking out". So that's what my Memorial Website is all about. To
introduce excellence in different fields to the public. Sadly, for too
many, it's too late. They're gone from us, never having made it to
the extent that their work merited. "The Best Legends You Probably
Never Heard Of". But perhaps they might achieve recognition post
mortem. At least their families might benefit. It's hard to say. But
the public would definitely benefit from getting to know some of "my
artists." Especially the musicians. Thanks for keeping in touch!
