I have browsed the website, www.myvesta.org quite extensively. I have
also searched for "bad news" about them, but have not found any. I
would like links to specific articles from people unrelated in
any way to the company itself with personal experiences dealing with
them. I am interested in good or bad news about them. Specifically,
case histories would be ideal. I am not interested in press-releases,
paid advertisements, or anything along those lines that would have the
obvious bias. I would also be interested in and would tip nicely for
any GA researcher who may have used their services.

Hello -

Please note: This answer is not finished until you're satisfied with
it. If you choose to rate this answer, I ask that you do so after
asking for any necessary clarification/information. Thanks for your
understanding.

Remember, as with any company, there's always going to be bad
experiences, especially with high profile ones. Prior to April 2000,
Myvesta was known as "Debt Counselors of America," so you may want to
do some more searching under that name.

Make sure to visit each link, as I've only included excerpts.

BBB Record
http://www.dc.bbb.org/report.html?compid=W6749&national=Y
"The company has resolved most customer complaints presented by the
Bureau; one answered complaint remains unresolved in our files,
however. In its responses, the company provided an explanation of the
matter stating their position and referred to the written terms of
their contract."

"I used myvesta.org to consolidate mine... it was the best thing I
ever did. The only thing is -- if you do it the loan way, the credit
cards are still available to you, and then you can run them up again.
Everyone swears they won't, but they still do, and then you've got the
cards AND the loan to pay off. If you use CCCS or myvesta, that won't
happen, because you can't use the cards, because you're in credit
counseling."

"Another excellent source of advice and assistance is Myvesta,
formerly Debt Counselors of America, a nonprofit financial crisis
center. Myvesta offers individualized counseling, a debt management
service, advice on avoiding bankruptcy and foreclosure, and even
counseling for families buried in debt. This is another source you can
trust completely."

"Another feature that I enjoyed and profited from at Myvesta.org was
the scam section. After browsing through this section, I'll be much
more able to spot a scam and avoid being a sucker to someone else's
scheme.

"OVER YOUR HEAD? HERE'S A HELPING HAND
There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of credit counseling
organizations around the country. Some are OK, others are doubtful. We
think one of the best is myvesta.org, a respected non-profit that's
now offering crisis relieft, debt work-out and financial counseling on
the Web. Anyone struggling with multiple credit card bills, personal
loans and car payments should take a look."

"I used myvesta.org to control my debt and brush up my credit report

"The only thing I wish was better with myvesta is how we make our
monthly payment to them. There is a variety of options available,
including ACH and personal check and others, but there are significant
fees for using all of them, which means that I have to purchase a
postal money order each month. But that's a minor inconvenience as
far as I'm concerned in exchange for the peace of mind they've given
us and the knowledge that we'll be debt-free in about 18 months..."

"I unfortunatly tried Myvesta and yes they are more interested in
controlling all of your finances and setting up a special account were
you even direct deposit your paychecks. Their tactics quite frankly
scared me and I even asked them directly how was I to know with them
having all of my account information that they wouldn't up and
transfer money right out of my account without me even knowing it and
they never replied to it. I backed out and am now trying to get my
money back and I think I will follow the advice of CIC and file a
complaint with FTC and BBB. Lee"

Just wanted to provide you both with my advice regarding selecting a
debt counseling agency. For starters, you may consider contacting
your creditors and ask them if they could recommend one agency over
another. Most creditors have relationships with one credit counseling
organization or another. You may also want to check what memberships
they are apart of. For example, are they members of the NFCC
(National Foundation for Credit Counseling)? Do they have local
offices throughout the country? I would definately recommend going
through a NFCC afilliate (national/local).

Regarding myvesta.org, I have heard varying comments about their fees
and ability to assist consumers get out of debt. Definately shop
around to compare fees - I hear they're much higher than CCCS.
