The first president of the Republic of Botswana was Sir Seretse Khama.

"The Bechuanaland Democratic Party was next to be formed under the
leadership of Mr Seretse Khama (later Sir Seretse) who became the
first President of the Republic of Botswana. The party's vice
president was an eloquent master farmer and former journalist -Mr.
Quett Ketumile Masire (Botswana's second President)"
