I am looking to obtain a used car dealer license. I sell used car's now, but if I buy a car without a title, or it has a bad title, I can only use the car for parts. I would be interested in finding a way to take a car with a bad, or no title, and obtain one to resell it. The only way I know of is to have a Dealer License. I live in the state of Maryland. How do I obtain a Used Car Dealer License? How much does it cost, how long does it take, how much work does it involve? Are there any other ways to getting a title on a "no title" car? Thank you. |

Hi willstein, I found the information you requested. With all the right forms filled out and after securing the bond, it should be very quick to obtain. The MVA office was closed at the time of this posting, but the dollar amount of the bond should be easily obtained by calling them in the morning. I listed the page with all the contact phone numbers below. Dealer Licensing Requirements http://www.niada.com/Dealer%20Corner/del_lic.htm Clicking on Maryland brings you to this: ..."Motor vehicle dealers must be licensed if he has sold more than 5 vehicles during a year. Dealer must have a location approved by an authorized representative of the MVA and must complete an application to be approved by the Business License & Consumer Services Division of the MVA, and must submit a bond in the name of the dealership. Laminated dealer photo license issued; annual renewal by mail is required..." Dealer License Fees: $500.00 New and Used Dealer $300.00 for boat trailer dealers and trailers 15 feet or less Application for a Certificate of Title (form # VR-005) http://www.mva.state.md.us/OnlineServ/DOCS/VR_018.pdf This can be used for titling a vehicle. This form must be filled out and brought in person to a local MVA office. It must be presented by the registered or legal owner. Call the MVA office with additional questions regarding titling a vehicle purcased without a title. I found this at the MVA web site main page by clicking 'Online Services' and then 'Download Forms,' then 'Vehicle Registration Forms.' Here's the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Web Site: http://www.mva.state.md.us/ Here's their Phone Numbers page: http://www.mva.state.md.us/tele.htm You might also find this site helpful: DealerLicense.com http://www.dealerlicense.com/ There's a book mentioned near the bottom that appeared very informative. Also is this page where you can enter a vin number and check a vehicles history: http://www.autocheck.com/autocheck/1_autocheck/jsp/home.jsp?&_414=706 If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask for a clarification before rating this answer... --Cynthia Search terms used at Google: "Used Car Dealer" and Maryland Maryland "car dealer" bond Maryland "car dealer" and bond Maryland "lost title" Maryland "lost title" vehicle |
