Hi jackie61-
Most authors request that they be contacted via their publishers, not
directly.  Would you accept the contact information for each of these
authors via their publishers?  As an author, I can tell you that
getting email directly when I've asked the publisher to keep my
contact info confidential is an extremely unwelcome event...

Hi Jackie61,

I have found the following information for you about Ann Patchett and
Richard North Patterson:

As I mentioned in the clarification above, most authors do not publish
their direct contact information, preferring all contact from readers
etc. to be funneled through their publishers.  This is not only to
protect their privacy but also to make sure that the email/letter is
received - many authors (particularly the two you're interested in)
have very busy touring schedules and may not be reachable through
normal-people means.

Ann Patchett (http://www.annpatchett.com/) publishes with
HarperCollins.  She is not one of the authors who have released their
email addresses.  You can use the following address to contact her via
paper mail:

10 East 53rd Street
New York, NY 10022

You can also fill out the form at
http://www.harpercollins.com/hc/aboutus/contactus.asp and select
"Contact an Author" to send Ms. Patchett email via the HarperCollins

Richard North Patterson
(http://www.randomhouse.com/features/patterson/) publishes with Random
House.  Again, his email is not listed by Random House, but you can
write him at the following address:

This is their official take on emailing authors: "Unfortunately, we
cannot forward e-mail to authors, nor can we give out authors' e-mail
or postal addresses. However, you can always contact Random House,
Inc. authors by mailing a letter to them in care of their publisher's
publicity department at: 1745 Broadway, New York, NY 10019 USA."

the homepages of the authors, then checking out the contact policies
of the publishers.
