I have an XML file that defines units between different unit systems, i.e., pounds, inches, meters, etc. That file is currently in spanish, and I want you to find someone that can copy that file translating each unit name to english, and check that the spanish names are correct. Or if someone of you can do it, better yet, give me a quote. The XML file defines about 700 units in several categories. Also, if you think you can compile a list of more than 700 units (complete with conversion factors/formulas, abbreviations, etc.), I'm listening. Regards, Ivan V. PS: You don't need to know XML, as you can easily tell between the actual text an the XML tags. PSS: Let me know what your price would be for any of the given scenarios and I'll put another question for you to answer (if you convince me, that is). | |

Hi Ivan, I can give you two basic options. The first would be to have it done by one of the independent researchers at Google Answers. You can paste in your XML files text as a question (unless its too long; I dont know what the limit is) and set the price yourself. If the price is enough, some researcher will do it for you. I cant tell you what price to set. Another researcher has indicated hed probably do it for $70. Id probably do it for $50 if the words are common (such as the words for kilometer and pound), but I would need more money if dealing with obscure measurements such as newtons and moles (because, although I am near-fluent in written Spanish, I dont have experience dealing with such measurements and would have to look them up). In any case, you could either set a higher price for a quicker answer, or you can set a lower price and see if anybody will answer it for you. The way the system works here, its up to you to set the price, but its up to the independent researchers to decide whether the price is sufficient. The other option -- and it's probably the best one if you have lot of work that needs to be done -- is to find a firm that deals with localization of software or other technical materials. You can find them with this Google search: ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=technical+translation+spanish+english+localization+software Here are some companies you might try: Trans-Mission http://www.trans-mission.com/ WordStation http://www.wordstation.com/ Intransco http://www.intransco.com/home.htm eWebTranslator http://www.ewebtranslator.com/about_us/faq.htm ASET http://www.asetquality.com/ Martin Ruhnau http://www.ruhnau-translation.com/ All of the above companies indicate on their Web sites that they have the experience to do the type of translation you need. Additionally, here are two directories of translation companies: http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Translation_Services/Technical/ http://spanish.about.com/cs/translators/ I hope one of these alternatives works for you. Best wishes, mvguy |

Thanks for the answer. I could actually done that research myself, but I think I didn't specify my question clearly enough. Anyway, I'm now evaluating my options. |

Hi Ivan, Thanks for using Google. I must say that you've made Google very much interesting for me now. I'm very much ready to answer this question of yours for conversion. My price is $70 for all the entries in your XML file. I've a huge database of several conversion factors and I can provide you that list also for an additional price(depending on the number of entries you want). I'll need only the category name in Spanish so that I can convert it easily into English. Just a quick question for you, how many entries are available in your XML file? Let me know when are you planning to post the question if this suits your requirements. Regards netcrazy |

Download the file here: http://omnipotente.com/units.es.xml Let me know how many more units you can add and how much would that cost additionally. Other than that I think we have a deal. I'll post the question when I know your price for the additional units. |

Just to confirm, the text to be converted is to be picked from 3 lines. 1st: <category name="Absorción de dosis"> 2nd: <base name="Gray" symbol="Gy" /> 3rd: <unit name="exagray" symbol="EGy" formula="1.0E18" /> Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks netcrazy |

That's right. You have to translate/correct the "name" attributes (name="). |

Hi, Last question. You want additional units in English or in Spanish and in the same xml file/format or in just plain text file with the conversion factors. Regarding the payment, please post a question for the amount of $94.00 for your 700 conversions. I wrote $94 because Google will take 25% of this amount and I need $70 for this work. I hope this is clear. Now for the additional units, I cannot tell you as of now. First I'll check what units are available in your file and then I'll let you know how many I can provide to you. I'll charge $0.25 per additional unit since you already have 700 units and to get more will require more work and effort. So depending on the additional number, I'll tell you to again post a new question for me. But first post a question for my name for this xml file and I'll than answer it. If you are satisfied with my work, then we can work on the additional units. Make sure that you mention my name while posting your question otherwise any other researcher will answer it. Do not mention about the work as I already know about it. This will prevent anyone answering it and you can specify in the question that if anyone else other than "netcrazy" answers it, then you'll ask for refund and will give negative feedback. ;-) The way this forum is setup, we cannot assign any project to a specific person in any other way than this. So request you to do so. I've started working on this project. When I'll see your question posted with the amount $95, I'll immediately answer it so that the answer is locked by me and then I'll post the converted file when its done. Give me sufficient time to make all the conversions so that the question doesn't expire. Could you please post it either tmrw (Saturday, June 8th) or if not then on Monday so that I can make sure that I'm locking that question. Feel free to ask for any clarifications. Thanks once again for using Google and for giving me this opportunity. netcrazy |
