Heif, Thanks for your question. There are several online alternatives to Mapquest. Below is a brief list. Expedia Maps http://maps.expedia.com/ Lasoo http://www.lasoo.com/ Mapblast http://www.mapblast.com/ Maps On Us http://www.mapsonus.com/ Excite (uses Maps On Us technology) http://www1.excite.com/home/info/maps/maps_overview/ Maps.com (uses Maps On Us technology) http://www.maps.com/explore/dynamic-maps/ National Geographic MapMachine http://plasma.nationalgeographic.com/mapmachine/ Rand McNally (from main page choose get a map) http://www.randmcnally.com/ Trip.com allows you to search by address or by latitude and longitude http://www.trip.com/trs/trip/content/maps_driving/street_map_search_by_address.x sl In addition, Fodors has a good selection of basic maps for each world region it reviews. To see the maps, go to http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/ and choose a region. On the resulting page look for the Maps heading on the left sidebar. These maps are not interactive. Some other reference URLs: Google open directory map section http://directory.google.com/Top/Reference/Maps/ Search terms used: online maps online map OR maps reviews mapquest mapblast lasoo Regards, Cindy | |

In the UK the Ordnance Survey has a superb service allowing users to home in on the area they are interested and use the results (1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scale) royalty free on personal non-commercial websites: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.ordnancesurvey.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Look for the 'Get-a-map' link. There are some specific (though generous) conditions which I urge you to read and abide by for your own protection. There are separate more generous conditions for the Education sector. All material for Northern Ireland requires separate permission. |
