Three years ago I visited the birth records office at Der
Standessbeamte, 55756 Herrstein, Idar-Oberstein, Rheinland, Germany
for genealogic info. I received valuable info.  Frau Braun was in
charge then. It has since relocated. Can you provide me with the

I believe that the office you want is the Standesamt in Idar-Oberstein
(whose home page is http://www.idar-oberstein.de/index2.html ).  (If
there was a Standesamt in neighboring Herrstein (
http://www.vg-herrstein.de/ ), there does not appear to be one now,
though there is an administrative office there.  It is conceivable
that if the records are in Herrstein, the staff of the Standesamt in
Idar-Oberstein will direct you to someone there.)  I should note that
a "Standesamt" is a registry office, while a "Standesbeamte" is a a
registrar at such an office.

The address would be: Standesamt Idar-Oberstein, Georg-Maus-Strasse 2,

I have been informed by a fellow Researcher (thanks, scriptor-ga!)
that Herrstein's administrative office is responsible for the issues
previously handled by the former Standesamt in Herrstein.  Moreover,
scriptor-ga has apparently found the very same Frau Braun at the
Herrstein office!
