Dear kenny5425-ga,

An interesting question and one with a very interesting answer.

The crash you are refering to involved one of the most famous aircraft
of World War II, the De Havilland Mosquito B IX Pathfinder, RAF serial
number GB-F, which completed 213 missions during the war (the most of
any aircarft.) It actually crashed two days after VE Day during a
publicity tour, thus making the crash date May 10, 1945. To find
information on the GB-F, take a look at the Smithsonian Institution's
National Air and Space Museum website.

Hope that this gets you the newspaper story you're looking for. Thanks
for asking a fun and challenging question.

I know that this one is puzzling some other researchers, so thought
that I would post a note. The NY Times index, which has a large
number of articles on crashes and mid-air collisions during this
period, shows nothing. There are several accidents in Alberta,
including an incredible tale of two airplanes which encountered each
other mid-air -- then landed in a piggyback fashion, both pilots safe.
But even that event happened at McCleod, Alberta in February, 1941.

The Transportation Safety Board records don't go back that far.
Perhaps another researcher can find them in a predecessor, much as the
Federal Aviation Administration in the U.S. had a predecessor in the
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

There’s a posting at ForPilots.com that mentions a plane collision in
1943 in Calgary.

“I would also like to know more about the two RCAF planes that
collided in Calgary in 1943, crashing down into the city streets.”
