I am doubtful that a list of all of the furnishings of this elegant
ship can be found on the Web. However, there are a number of books on
the Normandie and the great ocean liners in general, at least some of
which include information on the Normandie's furnishings. Would a
bibliography of these books, along with web pages that mention and/or
display some of the furnishings, be a sufficient answer?

Alternatively, or addition, would information on particular
furnishings be satisfactory for an answer? For example, I have found
a page with information relating to the piano to which you referred in
the title (though not the text) of your question.

I am trying to find out if a piano I have was on the Normandie. It is
a mini baby grand piano with decorative french painting. The books
will not be of help. I want a list of the furnishings that were on the
Normandie when it was owned by the French government before it was
called into allied service by U.S. Navy in 1941. At that time it was
stripped of the furnishings, which were auctioned off.Itwas prepared
to be a troop transport, unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in
1942. At that time it was named the U.S.S. Lafayette. The Normandie was
launched in 1932.

which I referred in the title.

I apologize for not responding to your clarifications earlier. I'm
not sure that the page that I have found will be of much help, since
the baby grand piano is in the background and partly obscured in the
photograph from that page:

I have also seen a couple of references to a children's book that
includes an illustration of a cabin that contained a baby grand piano.
So there may have been more than one baby grand on the Normandie.

If you think that this information is sufficient, I can provide links
to the pages containing the photo and referring to the illustration.
Otherwise, I suppose that the question should remain open for other
Researchers to work on.

I am interested in the children's book that relats to the piano. Is it
possible to get a list of the furnishings on the Normandie from a
french government agency? The piano is a mini baby grand with
decorative paintings. How could I find the name of the company that
furnished the Normandie?

I would be able to tell you only about the children's book, but not
about the other items you are interested in. I wouldn't want to
answer the question as it stands now if I couldn't provide all of the
information you have requested. That's why I suggest that other
Researchers might work on the question and find the essential
information that you want. Perhaps no one will find what you're
looking for, but on the other hand, perhaps someone will.

The owners of the S S Normandie were a french company. Maybe a list of
the furnishings may be obtained from them.
I would like the link that would connect me with the childrens book.I
may be able to identify the piano by the photo.

I don't have a link that shows an illustration of the piano, just
links about the book. Would these links be sufficient for an answer
to this question? (I wouldn't want to take your $20 unless you felt
you were getting $20 worth.)

I would prefer that you pursue connecting with the owners of the S S
Normandie. A frence company called Companie Generale Transatlantique.
I think they may provide a list of the furnishings on the Normandie

I suggest that you inquire from the USNavy archives about the U S S
Lafayette; the US Navy siezed the SS Normandie and changed the name to
USS Lafayette. The Naval Archives may be able to provide a list of
the furnishings that were removed from the ship. Please e-mail me the
results.
Thank you ,

I don't believe that I will be able to answer your question. However,
hopefully another Researcher will.

I've indicated the information that I have. However, since it does
not answer your question, I can't post it as an answer. This
information would answer a separate, more limited question relating to
that information.

I am trying to trace the origin of my mini baby grand piano to the S S
Normandie. It may be done by getting a list of the furnishings aon
board the ship, possibly a list that the U S Navy may havae made when
thdy started to convert it to a troop ship in 1942, and changed the
name of the ship to the U S S Lafayette.
