I am looking for Canadian web-design companies that will redesign my site, www.thecrown.ca. I built the site this year, but the person taking over for me does not have fluent HTML skills. So the site needs a couple of major added components: 1. An interface that will allow the addition of articles by the web designer, without his knowledge of HTML. In other words, some kind of GUI form that results in an HTML file integrated into the system. 2. I would like users of the site to be able to post comments at the bottom of articles, such as this example: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=41542 This site redesign would be a one-time deal, and include training so I can maintain it in the future. I prefer Canadian companies, to avoid exchange-rate hassles. I am looking for at least FIVE different options. Bear in mind that we are a university newspaper, and on a small budget. Thus, price ceiling is somewhere around $100 Cdn. Thanks. |

Hi academy589, Everything you mentioned sounded doable until you got to your price ceiling. I can tell you from experience that $100 is not going to buy you a web designer to do what you need done. Your best bet may be to go to your University's art department and find a student who is willing to do the job. Best of luck to you -- -K~ |

In response to knowledge_seeker: Thanks for your comment. I think my question may have left a wrong impression - the artistic design of the site is not the important part of the redesign. It's the two added components that I'm looking for. Do you think I may be better off asking the question, "How do I implement these two components?" Thanks again |

Actually, there is a way to get a great web design and stay within budget -- but you'll need to look to New Delhi or Bangalor. Seriously, we got a full-scale, easy to maintain, and scalable for growth website (with excellent customer service) for the grand sum of $800 US and you do not need the scale we were seeking. You can find candidates by checking www.elance.com, which has a bidding and payment mechanism. While communication with our Indian supplier is exclusively by email, it has worked out very well. |

You might want to reconsider using an American Company. With the strengthened Canadian Dollar and weak American dollar, you might get more "bang for your buck" by using an American Company. tisme-ga |
