I recently became a freelancer and no longer work on a network. I
need to forward my e-mail from a free site to my ISP and then on to
Outlook in my pc. The pc will then keep my Palm up to date when a
hotsync is executed. I've made a number of attempts, but no luck so
far. I think because I'm not technical, that the individual questions
on each site's menu is confusing me, or I'm not understanding it. I
hope that my description is clear enough. Will need a step-by-step
process spelled out. Help!

Who is your free e-mail provider?

Which free e-mail are you using? Many free e-mail such as hotmail.com
will not let you forward your mail automatically to your ISP account,
however, if you can manage the opposite, you can talk to your ISP
about installing a .forward which is a plain text file named .forward
in your home directory with a list of e-mail addresses to forward your
mail to. So you could put a .forward to your hotmail account, and with
the latest versions of outlook and outlook express you can even
download your hotmail directly to your PC without using the web
interface.

You'd probably want to know how to do that in Outlook right?

Go to TOOLS-->ACCOUNTS, then click on the Add button on the top right
of the screen, then click Mail... and it will walk you through a
little wizard to set up adding your hotmail account to outlook. When
it asks you for your e-mail address, you can specify
yourname@hotmail.com and the next step should already fill in the
necessary fields to take advantage of hotmail. If not select "My
incoming mail server is a " [HTTP] server. and select "My HTTP mail
service provider is " [HOTMAIL]. The rest of the steps are self
explanatory and ask for your username / password and shouldn't pose
much of a problem.

One last thing, if you're currently using another freemail provider
such as Yahoo, or Rocketmail, this will not work with outlook, but may
in future versions of Outlook & Outlook Express. Good luck!

In response to your need for clarification of my question...I'm using
a yahoo product that I pay for, but access through a free yahoo e-mail
address. Hope that helps. Thank for such a rapid fire response!
Looking forward to you expert advice.

I did more research since you mentioned that Yahoo is your mail
provider. For $29.99 a year you get both options easily. They allow
you to forward your mail directly to your ISP and/or check it directly
using Outlook Express's POP mail set up. They have detailed
instructions on their helpsite, but the first link you should check
out is this one:

http://ordering.yahoo.com/or/ypm/splash?855&Pkgs=us:ym:pop&.osig=zQwKT

It is the ordering screen for this service. Glad I could help!

if you're a professional freelances, give a professional impression
and get a domain name and account at, for example, pair.com. Then you
will be independent of your ISP -- POP and SMTP facilities are
provided so if you're on the road there will be no issues with your
email.

good luck with it all.
