Hello radarray,
At this point Pete Sampras has not officially retired, but it does
appear that he might soon.
Take a look at this article which suggests that he has semi-retired:
"But he was no more certain than we were. For Sampras, retirement was
not going to come with one final pronouncement but the way we see it
playing out now, in dribs and drabs, the decision ultimately making
itself so he didn't have to."

"Pete Sampras's decision last week to withdraw from the French Open
and Wimbledon probably signals the end of the most remarkable tennis
career in the past 30 years. But that does not mean Sampras, the
winner of a record 14 Grand Slam singles titles, has retired. He still
wants to leave himself enough wiggle room for the second thoughts that
might surface in the months ahead, particularly when he watches
Wimbledon begin from afar for the first time since 1988."

Finally, this link:
"He told the Los Angeles Times Thursday he hadn't closed the door on
returning, "More like 95 percent," he said. "If I was a betting guy, I
would say it's over," McEnroe said. "But he is being honest. He just
doesn't know yet. I spoke to [Sampras' coach] Paul Annacone and he
said Pete is still not 100 percent sure he wants to retire, but the
commitment level to play now is not there.""
