I am after the infrared remote control codes and protocol used by the
streamaster 5000 Motorola set top box. Codes that would work trough
the RS232 port on the back of the unit would also be acceptable. I
require at the very least the codes for the arrow keys and the number
keys.

I am using a linux based machine to record TV and need to give the
machine the ability to change channels on the set top box by itself.

The infrared remote control software for linux is called lirc. For
some reason my irman in conjunction with lirc will not record useful
codes from the provided set top box remote control. It only records a
4 digit number (should be much longer).

The streamaster unit appears to have been dropped by motorola as they
have aquired GI and are now selling their set top boxes. This makes it
very hard to find any information on the web. Almost all record of
the streamaster has been expunged from motorola's website.

The streamaster 5000 is an DSL based tv/multimedia set top box that
includes the nuon system.

I have sent out some e-mails. I will let you know if I find out
anything. All of the web sites I could find relating to the box no
longer exist.

E-mail didn't get me anywhere. I talk to Motorola's tech-support, and
they won't give out the codes. The representatives said the only way
to get them that he knew of was to use a learning device to obtain
them. I have no idea why the one you have tried did not work.

There does not appear to be any information readily available via the
Internet, even using old archived versions of it. There was a
streamaster.org web site and a Motorola web site, but they are both
long gone.

Thanks for your help Wonko.

Looks like I am stuck trying to figure it out the difficult way. I
think my next step will be to buy an IR reciever and plug it into a
CRO and try to count the pulses.

Funny thing is that the cable TV compunay here that has rolled out the
streamaster boxes has been having huge troubles with the power
supplies. They are currently waiting on a back order of over 5000
supplies. SO someone is still building and supporting these boxes.
