This window appears stating 'This program has performed an illegal
opeeration and will be shut down.' 'If this problem persists,
contact the program vendor.' This started appearing after
downloading OE6 and IE6 and I tried forwarding documents. What does
it mean and how do I get rid of it?
Invalid fault in module HBHOSTOL.DLL could have had something to do
with the installation. Is that not the fault of Outlook Express?

Hi there.

Do you have a program or browser extension called "Hotbar" installed?

Hello again, Dyrol.

The first thing I did was type the name of the file "HBHOSTOL.DLL"
into Google.
From the second result [ http://winforums.org/viewthread.php?tid=2590
], you can see that somebody else has had this problem although when
using Kazaa, which is based on Internet Explorer.
Outlook Express, Outlook (Office) and many other Windows programs use
the IE code as well.

From the above forum result, the advice given is that this
"hbhostol.dll" belongs to a program called "Hotbar" [
http://hotbar.com/site/abouthotbar/whatis.htm ], a browser extension.

It may be that you chose to install the program or it may have
installed itself via Internet Explorer when browsing.

To remove the program follow these instructions:

- Go to CNET Download.com, download and run the Spybot Search &
Destroy utility.
  http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10194058.html?tag=lst-0-1

This popular program will scan your PC for any "adware" or malicious
programs.
Make sure that you read the documentation before use.

  (Definition of "Adware")
  http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,289893,sid9_gci521293,00.html

- To prevent these programs from installing again without your
permission, open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu then click on
Internet Options.
Go to Advanced then under the Browsing part near the top, untick
"Enable Install on Demand (Other)" and "Enable third-party browser
extensions".

If you still get errors after removing the program, try repairing the
installation of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express by going to the
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select IE/OE6 and click
"Add/Remove".
Simply select "Repair" to make IE check for altered and corrupted
files.

Kind regards,
errol-ga.

As a first time user, I couldn't be happier. With a little more
experience, perhaps I shall be able to do this myself. Thank you
errol.
