I represent an employer which needs to recruit computer professionals.
We recruit "Business Analysts" and "Senior Java Software
Engineers/Programmers". Generally we place ads online with sites such
as Monster.com and Dice.com. We're looking for current and objective
ratings on the effectiveness of various job boards such as these.
Which sites have the most job seekers for the types of positions we
are looking for?

Hello workforce-ga,

How would you define "effectiveness" for ranking job boards? What
other criteria do you consider important aside from size of candidate
pool? Accessing millions of outdated resumes doesn't seem particularly
useful. What geographic area are you recruiting for? What industry?
I'd like to know a little more about your situation before taking this
on. Thanks.

Hi,

Answers to your questions:

1) We are located in Michigan in the United States.
2) We are recruiting people with a computer background. Two positions
are:
   a) Business Analysts - they gather and write specifications for
computer systems.
   b) Java Programmers - typical software programmer using the Java
language

Our company is in the computer industry (we develop computer
software for resale). However I don't think that is relevant.

3) Defining "effectiveness" is tough. I think the main thing I am
looking for are statistics that show that job board A has X
visitors/month vs. job board B only having Y visitors/month. Ideally,
the X and Y statistics should be for candidates with computer
backgrounds. It does me no good if secretaries and accountants are
visiting the job board since I'm not looking for those skill sets.

Additional note: We currently advertise on monster.com only because
it's the biggest. And we advertise on Dice.com since it has a
reputation for reaching computer people. But I can't determine the
"value" I get from either (e.g. candidates per dollar spent) without
these statistics. Maybe one is better than the other. Maybe other
job boards are better. That is really the genesis of the question.

Thanks and let me know if you need additional information.

Hi,
Would you mind sharing your monster board passwords?
