The traditional markers of inflammation are the catalytic products of Arachidonic Acid oxidation, mediated by iso-enzymes COX-2 & 5- & 12-LOX, namely prostaglandins like E2, D2, F2alpha, TX-A2, Leukotrienes (LTs), etc. In the last few years, a new marker, C-RP, has gained new prominence, "respectability" & record of reliability. And homocysteine is increasingly regarded as the most reliable & accurate marker of vascular diasease, with an inflammatory basis. WHAT IS THE PRECISE PHYSIOLOGICAL LINK (IF ANY) BETWEEN THE PGs, LTs and C-RP and Homocysteine? |
