My question is what do I need to do in order to make MSN video chat,
the remote assistance, voice chat etc. work. So far only the messaging
works. All functions work (between laptop and desktop computer), when
I hook up my laptop computer to the switch - on which the desktop
computer is conected to. Going through a dial up connection with my
laptop, then the mentioned functions dont work anymore.

Here is what Ï have got:
A desktop computer, running Win XP (no firewalls installed, the xp
firewall is deactivated). The computer is connected to a switch
(FSD-803) - see specifications here
http://www.winco.com.hk/planet/switch/sohoswitch.htm
The switch has an uplink to an adsl modem router - Zyxel P650-ME. The
ADSL modem supports universal plug an play (which is according to the
manufacturer) what I need to make MSN work - I have also activated
this function. The routers NAT configuration is set that all ports are
being forwarded to the desktop computers IP address.

The problem has to be somewhere between the switch uplink, the
adsl-modem-router and the isp.

My questions are - can my switch block ports (through the uplink) or
be the cause that the selected MSN features are not working?

Is it possible, that the ISP is the cause that the mentioned functions
dont work? (altough I doubt that)

What would you recommend to make it work.

Hi,

Can you please check in the security settings of the Zyxel P650-ME
that nothing is blocked.
Also when you say all ports are forwarded, does that mean that you
entered the IP address of your machine into the top row of the NAT -
Edit SUA/NAT Server Set section of the Zyxel P650-ME?

Do you have this problem if you bypass the switch and connect the
computer directly to the modem?

Thanks.

Yes I have done everything what you have proposed. Meanwhile I found
out that the other router on the video chat connection I want to
establish seams to be the problem... it is a Netgear RP614 and to make
msn work, apparently uPnP needs to be supported as well as a couple of
funky ports...
Havent been able thouth to check whether it works now but I am going
to close this question as the zyxel does not seem to be the problem
anymore.

Thanks for your clarification though.
