Hi!
There is an official way and a 'creative' way to get the information
you're looking for in a text file.
1 - The Official Way:
It is available for purchase through embassy.org
( http://www.embassy.org/ibc/lists.html ):
"The embassy.org site sells a list of contact information for the
foreign embassies of Washington D.C. in database form, suitable for
use in mail merge, fax broadcast, and other applications. Price for
the list is $40 (e-mail delivery) or $50 (delivery on PC-compatible
diskette)."
(This information is also available free in electronic form at
http://www.embassy.org/embassies/ )
2 - The Creative Way:
I'd be happy to cut and paste the information from the electronic
database into a text file in the format of your choice, and email it
to you. Assuming you prefer that option, please request clarification
and let me know how you'd like the file, and where I can send it.
If you'd like any additional information, let me know... I'm happy to
help!
Additional resources:
There is an Adobe file called the Key Officers List, compiled by the
Bureau of Administration, available through the US Department of
State's site.
From http://www.state.gov/www/about_state/contacts/keyofficer_index.html
:
"The Key Officers Guide provides the names of key officers at Foreign
Service posts with whom American business representatives would most
likely have contact.
I searched for:
us embassies ( ://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&querytime=g&q=us+embassies
)
embassies in us ( ://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&querytime=_N&q=embassies+in+us
)
us embassies contact list (
://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=us+embassies+contact+list
) |

Rebeccam, thanks for taking this. YES, I want to end up with the file
itself. Name and full mailing address as a text file that I can
import into a database.

I'm on it (creating a Directory in Word) and am also including phone &
fax, URL, and email when available. If you'd specifically like NOT to
have that information, let me know & I can easily make the appropriate
changes.
One note - some of the Embassies are in New York or Maryland outside
DC. So far I have included them... let me know if you'd like them
removed.
Last but not least, what email address should I send it to? I should
be done tomorrow, Thursday at the latest.
Thanks!
Rebecca

I've got the file ready to go, and saved as an Excel text file. (If
you prefer another format, let me know.)
Let me know your email address and I'll get it to you!
Best,
Rebecca

Rebeccam, I posted my address and google removed it. Problem huh.
They said it was to protect my privacy, my email address is everywhere
on the web anyway. I mean, it would take much to work it out from my
google name anyway, so i'm not sure what the deal is.

Interesting... Well, I sent it this morning to the general contact
address at what I guessed is your site. If you don't get it, let me
know!

The file is called Embassy Excel.xls; I've sent it to your address as
well.
Many thanks for the interesting question (I was a bit under-informed
on this subject before, I must admit :)
Of course, if the file doesn't meet your needs of if you have any
questions, let me know!
Best,
Rebeccam
