I need a list of songs that have "places in their title - i.e. The Devil goes down to Georgia, New York, New York etc. I'd rather have songs from the 60's onward. I'm going to a quiz tomorrow (Wednesday night) and would like to have some possibilities in my head for the song category. |

Greetings Moru71: First I went from memory and then I searched the LyricFind.com database state by state - I've noted the more popular tunes and there were more obscure ones. If you need the artists names (even though you didn't request those), search the song titles at LyricFind.com: Sweet Home Alabama Alabama Sky My Home's in Alabama Alabama Song Alaska and Me North to Alaska Arizona Hotel California California Dreaming California Girls California Nights California Soul Oh Carolina Carolina In My Mind (Going To Carolina Colorado Girl I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado Florida Room Hard Hearted Hannah, the Vamp From Savannah, GA Georgia on My Mind Rainy Night in Georgia Midnight Train To Georgia Sweet Georgia Brown The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia Blue Hawaii Indiana Wants Me Ballad of the Illinois Opry Private Idaho Kansas City Kansas City Blues Kentucky Rain Kentucky Woman Blue Moon of Kentucky Massachusetts Wild Montana Skies Montana The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota Sands of Nevada Stop in Nevada Nebraska The Nebraska Song Sometimes, New Jersey Never Going Back to New Jersey New York, New York New York State of Mind All the Way From New York Streets of New York New York Undercover Englishman in New York A Heart in New York New York City New York Minute New York City Rhythm Boy From New York City Once Upon a Time in New York New York City Boy Ohio Dayton Ohio 1903 Oklahoma! Willis Alan Ramsey is a great "place" singer/songwriter. There are three states mentioned on his one and only "green" album along with many other states of mind: Boy From Oklahoma Goodbye Old Missoula Northeast Texas Women http://www.willisalanramsey.com http://www.roots66.com/roots66/music/reviews/waramsey.shtml He also co-wrote "North Dakota" with Lyle Lovett. http://www.twin-music.com/azlyrics/l_file/lylelovett.html Can you tell I like the man? My hometown has inspired at least two songs: "Take Me Back to Tulsa," Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys http://trowbridgeplanetearth.com/T2/T2C1/GMcClure/TMBTTulsa.html "24 Hours from Tulsa," an old Gene Pitney tune. |

Oh, and Pinkie don't forget Eric Clapton's cover of Don Williams' "Livin' on Tulsa Time" (aka "Livin' on Toast and Tang"). ;-) http://www.geocities.com/donlyrics/lyindex.html http://www.amiright.com/misheard/artist/claptoneric.shtml |

I always enjoyed hearing Glen Campbell singing "Wichita Lineman." I believe Wichita is in the state of Kansas. |
